SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois learned with regret of the death of Joseph A. Favero of Waukegan on Monday, April 17, 2006; and

WHEREAS, He was born on December 17, 1930, in Tarentum, Pennsylvania; and

WHEREAS, After graduating with Bacehlor of Arts and Master of Fine Arts degrees in Music Education from Boston University, he moved to Waukegan in 1955, where he taught music in the public schools until he retired in 1992; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Favero was elected as a commissioner to the Waukegan Park District Board in 1977, where he remained as a commissioner and was currently serving as President of the Board of Commissioners; and

WHEREAS, He was a member of Saint Anastasia Church where he volunteered as a song leader, lector, and bingo committee member; he relished Notre Dame football, and his favorite professional sports teams were the Pittsburgh Steelers, Pittsburgh Pirates, and Boston Celtics; and

WHEREAS, He served his country, beginning in 1954, first in the 5th Army and then as Bandmaster of the 85th Division Band; he held his last assignment with the 566th Air Force Band, until he was honorably discharged December 15, 1990; he retired to his former U.S. Army rank of Chief Warrant Officer 3; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Favero volunteered as a tax preparer for AARP for the last 10 years and supported local performing arts organizations in Waukegan and Lake County; he performed with the Waukegan Municipal Band and the Waukegan Symphony Concert Chorus; he was honored by having a street in Bowen Park named for him; he enjoyed growing and harvesting cherries from his own trees and loved making cherry pies for friends; and

WHEREAS, He spent most of his free time reading, primarily European history books and historical biographies; he traveled extensively in retirement and took tours with WFMT and Elderhostel; he enjoyed Italian cuisine so much that he became an expert on the best Italian restaurants in every major city in the United States; and

WHEREAS, The passing of Joseph A. Favero has been deeply felt by many, especially his children, Antoinette, Timothy, and Terrence; his wife, Linda; his grandchildren, Ryan and Colin; and his brother, Thomas Favero, and wife, Wendy; he was preceded in death by his wife, Edith Buckley Favero, and his parents, Bartholomew C. and Edna Kemeza Favero; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Joseph A. Favero, and we extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to his family as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
