| SENATE RESOLUTION

| WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois |
3 |
| learned with regret of the death of Robert E. Hamilton of |
4 |
| Joliet on Sunday, January 15, 2006; and
|
5 |
| WHEREAS, Mr. Hamilton received his Associate of Science |
6 |
| degree at Joliet Junior College before serving in the U.S. Army |
7 |
| during WWII; he received his Bachelor of Science and Master of |
8 |
| Science degrees in civil engineering from the University of |
9 |
| Illinois at Urbana-Champaign; and
|
10 |
| WHEREAS, He formed a company in 1955 for the practice of |
11 |
| consulting engineering to provide the highly specialized |
12 |
| sanitary (now called environmental) design engineering |
13 |
| services to other engineering firms and directly to clients; he |
14 |
| designed sewage treatment and water supply projects throughout |
15 |
| Illinois, Indiana, and Ohio, and developed the first wastewater |
16 |
| treatment facilities for Frankfort, Minooka, Mokena, and New |
17 |
| Lenox; and
|
18 |
| WHEREAS, His Joliet business started in the rented home |
19 |
| that he shared with his wife, Shirley; the business has |
20 |
| expanded through four office moves to include 14 engineers, a |
21 |
| professional land surveyor, and a support staff of 14; in March |
22 |
| of 2005, Robert E. Hamilton Consulting Engineers, P.C., |
23 |
| celebrated its fiftieth anniversary at the firm's current |
24 |
| office at 3230 Executive Drive in Joliet; and
|
25 |
| WHEREAS, Throughout his career, Mr. Hamilton set the |
26 |
| standard for engineers for conduct as well as technical |
27 |
| expertise; his work has included developing many of the |
28 |
| processes that are the main stage of current water and |
29 |
| wastewater practice, and he literally helped write the books |
30 |
| that this industry uses; he was involved in numerous |
31 |
| professional societies, including the American Consulting |

| Engineers Council, the Consulting Engineers Council of |

| Illinois (past treasurer, past director, and member of the |
3 |
| Committee for Standard Specifications for Water and Sewer Main |

| Construction Illinois), the Illinois Engineering Council (past |
5 |
| director), the Illinois Society of Professional Engineers |
6 |
| (past Ethics and Practice Committee chairman), the Water |
7 |
| Environment Federation, the Central States Environment |
8 |
| Federation, and the American Water Works Association (life |
9 |
| member); and
|
10 |
| WHEREAS, He was a member of the University of Illinois |
11 |
| President's Council and the Joliet Junior College Foundation |
12 |
| Board, where he established two endowed scholarships to benefit |
13 |
| Joliet Junior College students; he was also a member of Rotary |
14 |
| International in Joliet; and
|
15 |
| WHEREAS, The passing of Robert E. Hamilton has been deeply |
16 |
| felt by many, especially his wife, Shirley (Morse) Hamilton; |
17 |
| his children, Marsha C. (Bruce) Hamilton, Janet (Robert) |
18 |
| Stevens, Howard J. (Kristen) Hamilton, and Helen (Brian) |
19 |
| Pohlman; his grandchildren, Robert M. (Amy) Hamilton, Patricia |
20 |
| (Brian) MacDonald, C. Brice McCaw, Dale B. McCaw, Kirk H. |
21 |
| McCaw, Aileen Hamilton, Sean I. Hamilton, Richard M. Hamilton, |
22 |
| Trenton M. Pohlman, Mitchell B. Pohlman, and Claire L. Pohlman; |
23 |
| his great-grandchildren, Sydney C. MacDonald, Colin D. |
24 |
| MacDonald, and Robert Nolan Hamilton; and his many nieces and |
25 |
| nephews; he was preceded in death by his son, Robert Bruce |

| Hamilton; his parents, James F. and Vida (Krans) Hamilton; his |

| twin aunts, Masie and Hazel Krans; his brother, James R. |

| Hamilton; and his sister, Helen L. Trautmann; therefore, be it

| RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL |

| ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of |
31 |
| Robert E. Hamilton, and we extend our sincere condolences to |
32 |
| his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it |
