| SENATE RESOLUTION
|

| WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois |
3 |
| learned with regret of the death of Ethel Cotovsky on Thursday, |
4 |
| March 9, 2006; and
|
5 |
| WHEREAS, Ms. Cotovsky was the co-founder of the Oak Park |
6 |
| Area Gay and Lesbian Association and in 1989 testified in |
7 |
| support of adding sexual orientation to the village's human |
8 |
| rights ordinance; she served as the organization's |
9 |
| co-chairwoman from 1992 to 1994; she took office as |
10 |
| co-chairwoman again in January 2004 but stepped aside in August |
11 |
| 2005 for health reasons; and
|
12 |
| WHEREAS, She was politically active when she was young and |
13 |
| was always concerned about workers' rights and the rights of |
14 |
| the underprivileged; and
|
15 |
| WHEREAS, The passing of Ethel Cotovsky has been deeply felt |
16 |
| by many; she was the loving mother of Sara (Mark) Armstrong and |
17 |
| Joshua Young; the dear aunt of Carol (Bob) Grannick, Adam |
18 |
| Grannick, Becky (Patty Tillman) Coven, Davey (Laura) Coven, and |
19 |
| Hannah and Gabriel Coven; and the sister of the late Nathan |
20 |
| (Annette) Coven; therefore, be it
|

| RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL |
22 |
| ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of |
23 |
| Ethel Cotovsky, and we extend our sincere condolences to her |
24 |
| family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it |
25 |
| further
|
26 |
| RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
27 |
| presented to her family as an expression of our deepest |
28 |
| sympathy.
