| WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois |

| learned with regret of the death of Eugene "Gene" Brombolich |
4 |
| Sr., the former mayor of Collinsville, on Sunday, March 19, |
5 |
| 2006; and
|
6 |
| WHEREAS, He was born on August 21, 1939, in East St. Louis |
7 |
| to John and Sophia Mary, nee Kordela, Brombolich; he married |
8 |
| Sheila Purlee on July 15, 1995; and
|
9 |
| WHEREAS, Mr. Brombolich served three consecutive terms as |
10 |
| mayor of Collinsville from 1979 to 1991; he also served as the |
11 |
| city's finance commissioner in 1975 and 1976; under his |
12 |
| leadership, the City Council approved the construction of the |
13 |
| Gateway Convention Center in Collinsville's Eastport business |
14 |
| district; he continued to be involved with the center by |
15 |
| serving as vice chairman of the city convention Authority |
16 |
| Board; and
|
17 |
| WHEREAS, After retiring from Monsanto as a chemist, he |
18 |
| worked as a real estate agent for Coldwell Banker; he served as |
19 |
| a Democratic precinct committeeman and was a lifelong member |
20 |
| and former president of the Collinsville Democratic Club; and
|
21 |
| WHEREAS, As a member and former president of the |
22 |
| Collinsville Jaycees, he was a co-founder of the Jaycee Raiders |
23 |
| Football League; he also was a member of the Collinsville |
24 |
| Animal Network, the Miners Foundation, and St. Peter and Paul |
25 |
| Catholic Church in Collinsville; he was a former member of the |
26 |
| Collinsville Historic Preservation Commission; and
|
27 |
| WHEREAS, The passing of Gene Brombolich has been deeply |
28 |
| felt by many, especially his wife, Sheila; his children, Eugene |
29 |
| "Rusty" (Cheryl) Brombolich Jr., Kim (Dennis) Thebeau, Alison |
30 |
| Romanik, and Rebecca Brombolich; his stepchildren, Shelly |
