| WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois |
3 |
| learned with regret of the death of Ruth Payne Jones on |
4 |
| February 23, 2006; and
|
5 |
| WHEREAS, She was born on March, 21, 1929, in St. Louis, |
6 |
| Missouri, the youngest of five children of Ruth Bush Payne and |
7 |
| Willis Newton Payne; she graduated from Sumner High School in |
8 |
| 1946 and attended Stowe Teacher's College in St. Louis; she |
9 |
| married Virgil James Jones in 1955 and relocated to Chicago; |
10 |
| and
|
11 |
| WHEREAS, Ms. Jones' first job was at an encyclopedia |
12 |
| company, and later she worked as a medical clerk for the |
13 |
| Illinois Department of Public Aid; she spent the majority of |
14 |
| her professional career at the Chicago Housing Authority; |
15 |
| during her 28-year tenure, she held a variety of positions at |
16 |
| housing developments across the city; her position prior to |
17 |
| retirement was as an income receiver; upon retirement, she |
18 |
| volunteered at St. Sabina Academy as a tutor and also assisted |
19 |
| in the church business office; and
|
20 |
| WHEREAS, She was baptized at Holy Angels Catholic Church in |
21 |
| South Kinloch, Missouri, in 1948, and accepted Jesus Christ as |
22 |
| her personal Lord and Savior in 1990; she had been a member of |
23 |
| St. Sabina Church since 1986, where she served on the Mother's |
24 |
| Board, Hospitality, and Usher ministries; she was unwavering in |
25 |
| her faith and remained steadfast in her commitment to family, |
26 |
| especially her children; she was a devoted mother, and caring |
27 |
| grandmother; and
|
28 |
| WHEREAS, The passing of Ruth Payne Jones has been deeply |
29 |
| felt by many, especially her sister, Georgia Johnson; her |
30 |
| children, Gail Terrell (Michael), Keith Andre' Jones, and |
31 |
| Virgil James Jones, Jr. (Sharisse); her niece, Patricia |
