SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois
3 learned with regret of the death of Lyman L. Benns Sr. of
4 Benton on Monday, January 30, 2006; and
 
5     WHEREAS, He was born on January 1, 1925 in Benton to George
6 Henry and Cora Mae (Williams) Benns; he was a member of the
7 Church of God in Logan; and
 
8     WHEREAS, He valiantly served his country as a member of the
9 United States Army Air Corps during World War II; he was a
10 member of the American Legion, the Veterans of Foreign Wars in
11 Benton, and a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Benton
12 and Marion; and
 
13     WHEREAS, Mr. Benns was a coal miner for more than 20 years
14 and a member of the United Mine Workers of America; he also
15 owned and operated the Kewpee Café in Benton and the Illinois
16 37 Motel in West Frankfort for several years; he loved to watch
17 his sons play football and enjoyed dancing and playing golf;
18 and
 
19     WHEREAS, The passing of Lyman L. Benns Sr. has been deeply
20 felt by many, especially his wife, Virginia (Bozovich) Benns,
21 whom he married December 24, 1995; his daughter, Mary Anne
22 Kline; his sons, Lyman Benns Jr. and wife, Jane, James Benns
23 and wife, Beth, Dennis Benns and wife, Debbie, Michael Benns
24 and wife, Lisa, and Stephen Benns; his stepdaughters, Tammy
25 Young, and Karen James and husband, Kenneth; his stepsons,
26 Warren Rice and wife, Karen, and Don Rice and wife, Ruth; his
27 sister, Georgia Sandusky and husband, Kenny; his grandsons,
28 Adam Benns, Eric Benns and wife, Lora, and Jeremy Benns; his
29 granddaughters, Julie Greisz and husband, Mike, Angela Wray and
30 husband, Pat, Deni Benns and fiancé, Paule Stallons, Jamie
31 Guzman, Lacey Owens and husband, Justin, Shauna Benns, and

1 Nikita Benns; his stepgrandchildren, Ben Rice and wife,
2 Heather, Josia and Nicholas Rice, Kushaiah Mercado, Douglas
3 Overturf, and Adam Overturf and wife, Angie; his
4 great-grandchildren, Caleb Garascia, Logan Gayer, Monica
5 Guzman, Braden and Riley Benns and Zach Wray; his six
6 great-stepgrandchildren; and his many friends; he was preceded
7 in death by his parents and his first wife, Margaret (Smith)
8 Benns, who passed away December 15,1993; his sister, Minnie
9 Burlison; and brother, Luther Williams; therefore, be it
 
10     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL
11 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
12 Lyman L. Benns Sr., and we extend our deepest sympathy to his
13 family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
14 further
 
15     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
16 presented to his family as an expression of our sincerest
17 condolences.
