| SENATE RESOLUTION

| WHEREAS, We have learned with sadness that Roy S. Davis of |
3 |
| Carterville, Illinois passed away on Thursday, February 2, |
4 |
| 2006; and
|
5 |
| WHEREAS, He was born Oct. 2, 1922 in Herrin to Roy S. Sr. |
6 |
| and Eliza (Addison) Davis; he married Nadine Young on Sept. 14, |
7 |
| 1946 in Monee; and
|
8 |
| WHEREAS, Mr. Davis fought for the Navy and the United |
9 |
| States of America in World War II on the USS Bainbridge and the |
10 |
| USS Dutton in the Pacific Ocean Theater; when he returned, he |
11 |
| worked at Norge and retired from Marion Federal Prison, after |
12 |
| 17 years of service; and
|
13 |
| WHEREAS, He was a member of Grand Avenue Baptist Church and |
14 |
| the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) and a lifetime member of |
15 |
| the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) in Carbondale, Carterville |
16 |
| Boat and Yacht Club, and the Elks Lodge in Herrin; and
|
17 |
| WHEREAS, Mr. Davis was the most generous, forgiving, and |
18 |
| loving friend to everyone he knew; he served his country from |
19 |
| start to finish with the greatest of pride and courage; he was |
20 |
| an inventor and engineer and had many patents; he loved to fish |
21 |
| at the Carterville boat docks and golf wherever he traveled; he |
22 |
| had found a computer to be a challenge and had mastered that in |
23 |
| the end; he was a great teacher and communicator; he loved |
24 |
| playing the saxophone in the John A. Logan College Community |
25 |
| Band and being with friends and family; he always had a big |
26 |
| garden with plenty for all; and
|
27 |
| WHEREAS, The death of Roy S. Davis is a great loss to many, |
28 |
| including his loving wife, Nadine Davis; his daughter and |
29 |
| favorite son-in-law, Linda and Robbie Church; his grandson and |
30 |
| best buddy, Andy Church; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and |
