SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate wish to express their sincere condolences to the family and friends of Arnold "Arnie" Millen, who passed away on on December 7, 2005; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Millen was born on May 16, 1928, in Aurora, to Catherine and John Millen; he graduated from Marmion Military Academy in 1946; he married the former Doris S. Minnich on February 26, 1949, and they went on to have a total of 9 sons, 5 daughters, and 22 grandchildren; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Millen lived in Aurora for the first 10 years of his marriage, where he was active in the St. Joseph's Holy Name Society, the St. Joseph's Catholic Church Building Fund Committee and the Knights of Columbus; he was a member of the Phoenix Club and later became active in Our Lady of Good Counsel Church; at Our Lady of Good Counsel, Mr. Millen was the president of the Holy Name Society, an active member of the Christian Family Movement, and the chairman of the Our Lady of Good Counsel pledge drive to build the Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic School; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Millen was a plumbing fitting salesman, who opened his own business, Hydronic Supply Company, in Aurora in 1965, selling plumbing supplies to building contractors and plumbers; prior to starting his own business, Mr. Millen worked as one of the top salesman for Builders Plumbing and Heating Supply Co., out of Chicago; and

WHEREAS, His quick wit and charming smile made him a natural salesman, but it was his reputation for being a fair and honest man that earned him the loyalty of his customers; Mr. Millen sold his business in 1982 and began working as a salesman for Kitchen Distributors of America (KDA) on New York Street in Aurora; that business later moved to a site near Fox Valley Mall; and

WHEREAS, As an avid golfer, Mr. Millen achieved the remarkable feat of capturing 6 holes-in-one during his lifetime; his last hole-in-one was shot on October 18, 2005 at Canoa Hills in Green Valley, AZ; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Millen was a member of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church in Tuscon, AZ; at the end of his life, he supported a new inner city school, San Miguel Catholic H.S., so that young people could learn more about the Catholic faith and have the insights necessary to maintain their faith as they got older and faced some of life's challenges; and

WHEREAS, He is preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Ray; his sister, Corinne Millen Rowe; and his son, Joseph Arnold Millen; and

WHEREAS, The passing of Arnold Millen will be felt by all who knew and loved him, especially his wife, Doris S. Millen; his sons, Michael J. Millen, Anthony P. Millen, James E. (Laura) Millen, Daniel E. (Joy) Millen, David W. (Pat) Millen, Gregory A. Millen, Samuel A. (Laura) Millen, Andrew J. (Jenny) Millen; his daughters, Susan A. (Tim) Welsh, Eileen (Bob) Goins, Linda (Gary) Schwartz, Marie Millen Page, and Carolyn (Peter) Krysciak; his grandchildren, Melanie M. Welsh, Rory M. Welsh, Bridget M. Welsh, Carolyn M. Welsh, Nicholas P. Welsh, Christopher M. Goins, Dawn G. Gray, Dustin Millen Brozenec, Natalie M. Schwartz , Aaron M. Schwartz, Kristy M. Millen, Nicole Alexander, Angelica F. Millen, Frances Millen, Amanda R. Millen, Ryan D. Millen, Adam P. Page, Austin K. Page, Erika J. Millen, Alexandra L. Millen, Elizabeth S. Millen, and Max Millen; his 3 great-grandchildren; his sister, Helen Millen Windisch; and his many nieces and nephews; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with all who knew and loved him, the death of Arnold "Arnie" Millen; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Arnold "Arnie" Millen as an expression of our sympathy.
