| SENATE RESOLUTION

| WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate wish to express |
3 |
| their sincere condolences to the family and friends of Arnold |
4 |
| "Arnie" Millen, who passed away on on December 7, 2005; and
|
5 |
| WHEREAS, Mr. Millen was born on May 16, 1928, in Aurora, to |
6 |
| Catherine and John Millen; he graduated from Marmion Military |
7 |
| Academy in 1946; he married the former Doris S. Minnich on |
8 |
| February 26, 1949, and they went on to have a total of 9 sons, 5 |
9 |
| daughters, and 22 grandchildren; and |
10 |
| WHEREAS, Mr. Millen lived in Aurora for the first 10 years |
11 |
| of his marriage, where he was active in the St. Joseph's Holy |
12 |
| Name Society, the St. Joseph's Catholic Church Building Fund |
13 |
| Committee and the Knights of Columbus; he was a member of the |
14 |
| Phoenix Club and later became active in Our Lady of Good |
15 |
| Counsel Church; at Our Lady of Good Counsel, Mr. Millen was the |
16 |
| president of the Holy Name Society, an active member of the |
17 |
| Christian Family Movement, and the chairman of the Our Lady of |
18 |
| Good Counsel pledge drive to build the Our Lady of Good Counsel |
19 |
| Catholic School; and |
20 |
| WHEREAS, Mr. Millen was a plumbing fitting salesman, who |
21 |
| opened his own business, Hydronic Supply Company, in Aurora in |
22 |
| 1965, selling plumbing supplies to building contractors and |
23 |
| plumbers; prior to starting his own business, Mr. Millen worked |
24 |
| as one of the top salesman for Builders Plumbing and Heating |
25 |
| Supply Co., out of Chicago; and |
26 |
| WHEREAS, His quick wit and charming smile made him a |
27 |
| natural salesman, but it was his reputation for being a fair |
28 |
| and honest man that earned him the loyalty of his customers; |
29 |
| Mr. Millen sold his business in 1982 and began working as a |
30 |
| salesman for Kitchen Distributors of America (KDA) on New York |
31 |
| Street in Aurora; that business later moved to a site near Fox |

| Valley Mall; and |
2 |
| WHEREAS, As an avid golfer, Mr. Millen achieved the |
3 |
| remarkable feat of capturing 6 holes-in-one during his |
4 |
| lifetime; his last hole-in-one was shot on October 18, 2005 at |
5 |
| Canoa Hills in Green Valley, AZ; and
|
6 |
| WHEREAS, Mr. Millen was a member of Our Lady of Fatima |
7 |
| Catholic Church in Tuscon, AZ; at the end of his life, he |
8 |
| supported a new inner city school, San Miguel Catholic H.S., so |
9 |
| that young people could learn more about the Catholic faith and |
10 |
| have the insights necessary to maintain their faith as they got |
11 |
| older and faced some of life's challenges; and
|
12 |
| WHEREAS, He is preceded in death by his parents; his |
13 |
| brother, Ray; his sister, Corinne Millen Rowe; and his son, |
14 |
| Joseph Arnold Millen; and
|
15 |
| WHEREAS, The passing of Arnold Millen will be felt by all |
16 |
| who knew and loved him, especially his wife, Doris S. Millen; |
17 |
| his sons, Michael J. Millen, Anthony P. Millen, James E. |
18 |
| (Laura) Millen, Daniel E. (Joy) Millen, David W. (Pat) Millen, |
19 |
| Gregory A. Millen, Samuel A. (Laura) Millen, Andrew J. (Jenny) |

| Millen; his daughters, Susan A. (Tim) Welsh, Eileen (Bob) |
