SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois
3 learned with regret of the death of Alan J. Campbell of
4 Tallahassee, Florida, formerly of Naperville, on Friday,
5 February 3, 2006; and
 
6     WHEREAS, He was born in Canton, Ohio, to Roseann and
7 Charles Campbell and was raised in Bridgeport, Connecticut; he
8 received a bachelor of arts degree in international studies in
9 1972 from Assumption College in Worchester, Massachusetts;
10 that same year, he married his high school sweetheart,
11 Patricia; he went on to Ohio State University for a master's
12 degree in urban geography, which he received two years later;
13 and
 
14     WHEREAS, Mr. Campbell began his career in research and
15 development at an insurance firm; he started in the association
16 business in 1979 when he joined the Houston Apartment
17 Association in Texas as their legislative advocate and worked
18 his way up to vice president by the time he left in 1984; and
 
19     WHEREAS, He moved to the Austin Apartment Association and
20 worked there as vice president for three years before he became
21 the vice president of the National Apartment Association for
22 three years; from 1990 to 1994, Mr. Campbell served as
23 executive vice president of the National Association of the
24 Remodeling Industry in Washington, D.C.; and
 
25     WHEREAS, For the next 11 years, Mr. Campbell was head of
26 the Window & Door Manufacturers Association when the family
27 settled in Naperville; while he was president of the Window &
28 Door Manufacturers Association, he had the skillful ability of
29 taking the needs and wants of individual members who were
30 competitors and molding all into agreement; he helped
31 companies, both large and small, to have a voice in the

1 association and build a consensus; and
 
2     WHEREAS, From 1994 to February 2005, Mr. Campbell led the
3 Window & Door Manufacturers Association in Des Plaines and
4 helped move the association into the future; his success in
5 dealing with a diverse group of people is attributed to the
6 fact that people trusted him; he went on to serve as the
7 president of the Florida Society of Association Executives; and
 
8     WHEREAS, He is remembered as a warm, congenial, and sincere
9 gentleman; he believed in getting as much out of life as he
10 could and cherished every moment, taking time to appreciate
11 special occasions or the quiet moments with family; and
 
12     WHEREAS, The passing of Alan J. Campbell has been deeply
13 felt by many, especially his beloved wife of 34 years,
14 Patricia; his loving daughters, Meghan Campbell, Maureen
15 Campbell, and Emily (Curtis) Webster; his grandson, Ryan
16 Webster; his mother, Roseann Campbell; and his siblings, Cathy
17 Mila, Laurie Carnal, and Bruce Campbell; he was preceded in
18 death by his father; therefore, be it
 
19     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL
20 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
21 Alan J. Campbell, and we extend our sincere condolences to his
22 family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
23 further
 
24     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
25 presented to his family as an expression of our deepest
26 sympathy.
