| WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois |
3 |
| learned with regret of the death of Alan J. Campbell of |
4 |
| Tallahassee, Florida, formerly of Naperville, on Friday, |
5 |
| February 3, 2006; and
|
6 |
| WHEREAS, He was born in Canton, Ohio, to Roseann and |
7 |
| Charles Campbell and was raised in Bridgeport, Connecticut; he |
8 |
| received a bachelor of arts degree in international studies in |
9 |
| 1972 from Assumption College in Worchester, Massachusetts; |
10 |
| that same year, he married his high school sweetheart, |
11 |
| Patricia; he went on to Ohio State University for a master's |
12 |
| degree in urban geography, which he received two years later; |
13 |
| and
|
14 |
| WHEREAS, Mr. Campbell began his career in research and |
15 |
| development at an insurance firm; he started in the association |
16 |
| business in 1979 when he joined the Houston Apartment |
17 |
| Association in Texas as their legislative advocate and worked |
18 |
| his way up to vice president by the time he left in 1984; and
|
19 |
| WHEREAS, He moved to the Austin Apartment Association and |
20 |
| worked there as vice president for three years before he became |
21 |
| the vice president of the National Apartment Association for |
22 |
| three years; from 1990 to 1994, Mr. Campbell served as |
23 |
| executive vice president of the National Association of the |
24 |
| Remodeling Industry in Washington, D.C.; and
|
25 |
| WHEREAS, For the next 11 years, Mr. Campbell was head of |
26 |
| the Window & Door Manufacturers Association when the family |
27 |
| settled in Naperville; while he was president of the Window & |
28 |
| Door Manufacturers Association, he had the skillful ability of |
29 |
| taking the needs and wants of individual members who were |
30 |
| competitors and molding all into agreement; he helped |
31 |
| companies, both large and small, to have a voice in the |
