| SENATE RESOLUTION

| WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois |
3 |
| learned with regret of the death of William A. Kleist of |
4 |
| Clarendon Hills on Saturday, February 4, 2006; and
|
5 |
| WHEREAS, He was born and raised on the South Side and was a |
6 |
| graduate of Calumet High School, where he lettered in baseball, |
7 |
| basketball, and football; he attended Wilson Junior College in |
8 |
| Chicago, and he played baseball with the Chicago Cubs farm team |
9 |
| out of Fond du Lac, Wisconsin; while at college, he met his |
10 |
| wife of 58 years, Margery; and
|
11 |
| WHEREAS, In 1943, Mr. Kleist enlisted in the U.S. Army Air |
12 |
| Forces and trained to be a fighter pilot with the 8th Fighter |
13 |
| Squadron; he flew P-38 fighters and served throughout the |
14 |
| Pacific theater during World War II until his military |
15 |
| discharge in 1946; and
|
16 |
| WHEREAS, After the war, he began working for Chicago-based |
17 |
| Swift & Co. in the transportation department; he worked there |
18 |
| for nearly 20 years before becoming the co-owner of Richwill |
19 |
| Enterprises, a warehousing and refrigeration business for food |
20 |
| products; and
|
21 |
| WHEREAS, When he retired in 1988, the company Mr. Kleist |
22 |
| helped build had grown from four employees to more than 20; he |
23 |
| was known for his strong work ethic and extraordinary |
24 |
| organizational skills; and |
25 |
| WHEREAS, During his retirement, he attended many high |
26 |
| school reunions; he valued the relationships he had formed |
27 |
| throughout his life, and he had a sentimental side that he |
28 |
| enjoyed sharing with loved ones; and
|
29 |
| WHEREAS, The passing of William A. Kleist has been deeply |
