SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois
3 learned with sadness of the death of William P. Portell of Hobe
4 Sound, Florida, on January 23, 2006; and
 
5     WHEREAS, William P. Portell was born on April 29, 1928, in
6 Granite City; he married Julia Hudgens on November 11, 1950;
7 and
 
8     WHEREAS, Mr. Portell was a roll grinder for Granite City
9 Steel for 35 years and later was employed at the Madison County
10 Courthouse as a bailiff for 15 years; he was a U.S. Army
11 veteran serving during Lorian Conflict; and
 
12     WHEREAS, The passing of William P. Portell has been felt by
13 many, especially his wife, Julia, nee Hudgens, Portell; his
14 son, Robert (Roxanne) Portell and his children, Sarah and
15 Caitlin; his daughters, Donna (Mike) Cobb and her children,
16 Lona (Bass) Maali and Nathan Fonville, Dawn (Edward) Sturgeon
17 and her children, Holly Valente and Brooke Sanders, Diane
18 Carter and her child, Stephen Carter, Denise (Mike) Derner, and
19 Darla Portell and child, Ella; his brothers, Richard Portell
20 and Harold Portell; and his sisters, Hilda Melton, Rose
21 Wohlstadter, and Dolores McCullough; and
 
22     WHEREAS, He was preceded in death by his parents, Vincent
23 and Victoria, nee Coleman, Portell; his son, William Paul
24 Portell Jr.; his brothers, Robert, Don, and Willard Portell;
25 and his sisters, Angela Buehler and Jeanne Luehmann; therefore,
26 be it
 
27     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL
28 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
29 William P. Portell, and we extend our deepest sympathy to his
30 family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
