SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate were deeply
3 saddened to learn of the death of Deacon Eddie Moss of North
4 Chicago on January 14, 2006; and
 
5     WHEREAS, Deacon Moss was born on May 6, 1932 in Hernando,
6 Mississippi, to Ms. Inez Willis; he was united in Holy
7 Matrimony to Pearl Butler on October 4, 1952; he moved to
8 Waukegan from Mississippi in 1957 with his wife and four
9 children to make a better life for his family; after 32 years
10 of dedicated service, he retired from Refiners and Smelters in
11 North Chicago, in 1977; he later worked as a lunchroom
12 supervisor for Waukegan Schools until illness required him to
13 retire in 2004; and
 
14     WHEREAS, He confessed his belief in Christ at an early age
15 at the Union Hill M.B. Church in Hernando, Mississippi, and was
16 crowned Deacon under the leadership of Rev. Bruce Ivy in 1963;
17 Deacon Moss later joined Mt. Sinai and Mt. Moriah and served as
18 Deacon under Bishop Solomon Smith; he served faithfully as a
19 Deacon for 43 years, until his illness; and
 
20     WHEREAS, Deacon Smith leaves to cherish his memory his
21 loving wife of 53 years, Alpearl Moss; his four children, J.D.
22 Moss, Melvin Moss, Barbara Moss Ferguson, and Julie (Clayton)
23 Moss-Thorn; his grandchildren, Marlon (Cheryl D.) Moss, Cheryl
24 M. Moss, Latisha Grier, Angela Clark, Nikki and Nia Ferguson,
25 Julian Moss, Christian and Cayla Thorn, and Melvin Taylor; his
26 special cousin, Fannie Massey; his special niece, Evangelist
27 Carolyn Jean Hood; 14 great-grandchildren; and a host of
28 nieces, nephews and cousins; the Mt. Moriah family; and Bishop
29 Solomon and Ernestine Smith; and
 
30     WHEREAS, Deacon Moss was preceded in death by his mother,
31 his daughter, Edie Moss Domino; his brother, Johnny Clayton;

1 his sister, Jessie Plunkett; and his special friend, John
2 Moton; and
 
3     WHEREAS, Deacon Moss will be sadly missed by all who knew
4 him, especially his family and friends; therefore, be it
 
5     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL
6 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the death of
7 Deacon Eddie Moss, and we extend to his family and friends our
8 sincerest condolences; and be it further
 
9     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
10 presented to the family of Deacon Eddie Moss as an expression
11 of our deepest sympathy.
