| SENATE RESOLUTION
|

| WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate wish to express |
3 |
| their sincere condolences to the family and friends of Jeffrey |
4 |
| Long, who passed away on January 3, 2006; and
|
5 |
| WHEREAS, Jeffrey Long was born on his mother's birthday, |
6 |
| November 6, 1951, in Waukegan to Walter and Pearl Glover Long; |
7 |
| and
|
8 |
| WHEREAS, He grew up in North Chicago, where he attended |
9 |
| South School, North School, and North Chicago Community High |
10 |
| School; he then attended Jackson State University, Fox Valley |
11 |
| Technical College, and the Hollywood School of Cosmetology, |
12 |
| where he graduated with honors; and
|
13 |
| WHEREAS, Jeffrey Long was baptized at First Corinthian |
14 |
| Missionary Baptist Church and became active in his church; he |
15 |
| was blessed with a beautiful voice and was a member of the |
16 |
| Inspirational Choir, Voices for Corinthian, and the Men's |
17 |
| Chorus; he participated yearly in the renowned local Easter |
18 |
| Passion Play, "He Decided to Die"; and he performed with many |
19 |
| local groups and enjoyed using his gift to bring joy to |
20 |
| everyone who went to hear him; and
|
21 |
| WHEREAS, Jeffrey Long joined the United States Army and |
22 |
| served in Vietnam in the early 1970s; he was injured and |
23 |
| received an honorable discharge; and
|
24 |
| WHEREAS, Mr. Long was a cosmetologist/stylist for many |
25 |
| years in California and Lake County; his career started in |
26 |
| Hollywood, where he served as a representative for several name |
27 |
| brand hair products; he entered many hairstyle competitions and |
28 |
| was chosen "Top Stylist" in all of them; he was a National |
29 |
| Hairstylist and developed the "2" comb freeze wave; he |
30 |
| continued his career in Lake County working at several local |

| beauty salons for the past 25 years; and
|

| WHEREAS, Mr. Long was preceded in death by his father, |
3 |
| Walter Long Sr.; his brothers, Moses, Walter, Jr., Thomas, and |
4 |
| James; his paternal grandparents, Walter and Hallie (Griffin) |
5 |
| Long; and his maternal grandparents, Moses and Zella (Garrett) |
6 |
| Glover; and
|
7 |
| WHEREAS, The passing of Jeffrey Long will be felt by all |
8 |
| who knew and loved him, especially his daughter, Ruthellis |
9 |
| Lockett; his son, Martell Cotton; his grandchildren, Darcy, |
10 |
| Dijon, Latrtese, and David; his mother Pearl Long Pitts; his |
11 |
| sisters, Etties Mitchell and Gwen Long-Beckwith; his nephews, |
12 |
| Dirck Mitchell Sr., Kwame Salaam, and Kobie Long; his nieces |
13 |
| Leisa Mitchell, Kelly Long, Marla (Paul) Helseth, Dara (Greg) |
14 |
| Griffin, and Nia Beckwith; his great-nephews, Rahman Mitchell, |
15 |
| Dirck Mitchell Jr., Elijah Griffin, and Noah Griffin; his |
16 |
| great-great-nephew, Stephon Mitchell; his uncles, Lester Long |
17 |
| Sr. and Willoby Long; his aunts, Mattie Glover, Gracie Long, |
18 |
| and Dolly Coleman; his dear sister-in-law, Priscilla Holiday; |
19 |
| and a loving host of relatives and friends; therefore, be it

| RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL |

| ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with |
22 |
| all who knew and loved him, the death of Jeffrey Long; and be |
23 |
| it further
|

| RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
25 |
| presented to the family of Jeffrey Long as an expression of our |
26 |
| deepest sympathy for their loss.
