2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois | ||||||
3 | learned with sadness of the death of Barry Crown, recently of | ||||||
4 | Jupiter, Florida, on January 12, 2006; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, On October 17, 1930, Barry Crown was born into the | ||||||
6 | Herman Crown family in Evanston, where he spent his childhood | ||||||
7 | before he left for horizons across the country and across the | ||||||
8 | world; and
| ||||||
9 | WHEREAS, The 1950s was a decade of achievement for Barry | ||||||
10 | Crown, he graduated from Yale University with degrees in | ||||||
11 | engineering and law, served as a United States Army officer in | ||||||
12 | the Korean War, and functioned as the Operational Director of | ||||||
13 | the Materials Service Corporation, the company founded by his | ||||||
14 | uncles; and
| ||||||
15 | WHEREAS, In 1970, Barry and Beverly married and began their | ||||||
16 | 35 years of marriage that were filled with love and the | ||||||
17 | activities that they so enjoyed together, operating Lifeguide a | ||||||
18 | popular Palm Beach fitness facility, traveling the world, | ||||||
19 | learning new sporting activities, and climbing Mt. Everest; and
| ||||||
20 | WHEREAS, Barry Crown was an entrepreneur who founded | ||||||
21 | several companies including Burton Dixie and Henderson Camp | ||||||
22 | Products, which always produced quality goods; and
| ||||||
23 | WHEREAS, Barry Crown, as a philanthropist, made certain | ||||||
24 | that his efforts truly provided help and happiness to people in | ||||||
25 | need or provided strong support for the worthy causes in which | ||||||
26 | he believed; and
| ||||||
27 | WHEREAS, Barry Crown served on the board of the Peggy Adams | ||||||
28 | Animal Rescue League whose mission is to shelter homeless | ||||||
29 | animals, furnish them with medical services, find homes for |
| |||||||
| |||||||
1 | neglected animals, and enhance the bond between people and | ||||||
2 | animals; and
| ||||||
3 | WHEREAS, Barry and Beverly Crown loved dogs, especially | ||||||
4 | their three Papillion breed dogs, and they founded the "Walk | ||||||
5 | for the Animals", a fundraiser for the Peggy Adams Animal | ||||||
6 | Rescue League that hosts hundreds of people and their dogs to | ||||||
7 | help needy dogs and cats and provide free spay and neuter | ||||||
8 | surgeries; and
| ||||||
9 | WHEREAS, Higher education was recognized by Barry Crown for | ||||||
10 | its critical role in our future and he contributed his talents | ||||||
11 | as a board member of three fine institutions, namely the Honors | ||||||
12 | College of Florida Atlantic University, Roosevelt University, | ||||||
13 | which conferred upon him the title of honorary trustee, and | ||||||
14 | Columbia College, which designated him as a lifetime trustee; | ||||||
15 | and
| ||||||
16 | WHEREAS, The passing of Barry Crown is felt by all who knew | ||||||
17 | and loved him, especially his wife, Beverly; his children | ||||||
18 | Laurie Crown, Donna Crown, Bruce Crown, Bradley Crown, Debra | ||||||
19 | Day, Tawne Day, and Lance Day; his grandchildren and | ||||||
20 | great-grandchildren; and his sisters, Florence Rothman and Dr. | ||||||
21 | Irene Merwin; therefore, be it
| ||||||
22 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL | ||||||
23 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
24 | Barry Crown and we extend our sincerest condolences to his | ||||||
25 | family, friends, and community; and be it further
| ||||||
26 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
27 | presented to his family as an expression of our deepest | ||||||
28 | sympathy.
