| SENATE RESOLUTION
|
2 |
| WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois |
3 |
| learned with regret of the death of Alvin G. Dodds of |
4 |
| Edwardsville on Thursday, January 5, 2006; and
|
5 |
| WHEREAS, Mr. Dodds was superintendent of Edwardsville |
6 |
| schools for 19 years, from 1957 to 1976; he was known for his |
7 |
| fairness and his unwavering support of both students and |
8 |
| teachers; and
|
9 |
| WHEREAS, He began his education career after graduation |
10 |
| from Southern Illinois University Carbondale in 1938; he later |
11 |
| earned master's degrees in educational administration and as an |
12 |
| education specialist; and
|
13 |
| WHEREAS, He began working in Edwardsville as a junior high |
14 |
| school principal in 1955 and had previously worked as a teacher |
15 |
| and principal in his hometown, West Frankfort; and
|
16 |
| WHEREAS, He valiantly served his country and was decorated |
17 |
| with a Bronze Star for bravery in France during his World War |
18 |
| II service in the U.S. Army 6th Armored Division; he was |
19 |
| wounded and also received a Purple Heart; and
|
20 |
| WHEREAS, The passing of Alvin G. Dodds has been deeply felt |
21 |
| by many, especially his wife, Evelyn Dodds; his daughter; his |
22 |
| sons; his sister; and his five grandchildren; therefore, be it
|
23 |
| RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL |
24 |
| ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of |
25 |
| Alvin G. Dodds, and we extend our sincere condolences to his |
26 |
| family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it |
27 |
| further
