| SENATE RESOLUTION

| WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois |
3 |
| learned with regret of the death of W.C. Peterson of O'Fallon |
4 |
| on Friday, December 16, 2005; and
|
5 |
| WHEREAS, He was born March 19, 1947, in Doddsville, |
6 |
| Mississippi; he was a graduate of Delta State University in |
7 |
| Cleveland, Mississippi, where he received a B.A. in mathematics |
8 |
| and a Master of Education in health/physical education; he |
9 |
| continued his education through an extensive program of math |
10 |
| and science at Southern Illinois University in Edwardsville and |
11 |
| Carbondale; and
|
12 |
| WHEREAS, His teaching and coaching career began in Benoit, |
13 |
| Mississippi, and he moved to East St. Louis; he taught |
14 |
| mathematics and coached cross-country, basketball, track, and |
15 |
| summer AAU; he won many championships while coaching and was |
16 |
| always encouraging, assisting and sometimes taking his |
17 |
| athletes to college and making a contact for them; he wanted |
18 |
| his athletes to accept the opportunities that were available |
19 |
| for them and to succeed by using hard work and meeting their |
20 |
| potential; and
|
21 |
| WHEREAS, In 2003, after 30 years of dedicated service, W.C. |
22 |
| retired from School District 189 in East St. Louis; upon |
23 |
| retirement, he began as owner and operator of Universal Daycare |
24 |
| and Preschool; and
|
25 |
| WHEREAS, He was witty and enjoyed life immensely; he |
26 |
| enjoyed traveling, helping others, and has been recognized |
27 |
| several times through awards and citations from the PTO, |
28 |
| Coahoma Junior College Alumni, Mississippi Valley State |
29 |
| University, and Ruleville Central High School; in 2004, he was |
30 |
| inducted into the East St. Louis Athletic Hall of Fame; he was |
31 |
| a former member of Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church in East |
