SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois
3 learned with regret of the death of Lester Brownstein of Morton
4 Grove on Monday, December 5, 2005; and
 
5     WHEREAS, Mr. Brownstein was born on March 27, 1921, in
6 Chicago, where he attended Stewart Grammar School and Senn High
7 School; and
 
8     WHEREAS, He valiantly served his country as a member of the
9 U.S. Army during World War II; he served 35 months in the Asian
10 Pacific Theater and earned a Bronze Star; he was a member of
11 Morton Grove American Legion Post 134 and Disabled American
12 Veterans Federal Chapter 42; and
 
13     WHEREAS, He had been a Niles Township Trustee since his
14 appointment in 1999; he also served on Morton Grove's Traffic
15 Safety Commission and was chairman of the Morton Grove Caucus
16 Party; as a trustee, he looked out for Morton Grove, ensuring
17 the village and its residents received the assistance they
18 needed; he was consistently concerned with doing the right
19 thing and was known for his love of helping people; and
 
20     WHEREAS, He was a past president of the Elephant Club of
21 Niles Township, and he was active with the Morton Grove Lions
22 Club and the Morton Grove Chapter of B'nai B'rith; he was
23 former Midwest director for special events with the City of
24 Hope and a member of the Goland-Orenstein-Sherman Memorial
25 Chapter of the Leukemia Research Foundation, Inc.; he was a
26 life member of the Illinois Police Association, a member of St.
27 Jude's Police Branch, and was a member of the American Law
28 Enforcement Association; and
 
29     WHEREAS, Mr. Brownstein was the husband of the late
30 Marjorie and the late Hollis R.; the father of Steven Louis

1 (Rhoda) Brownstein, Steven David (Sharon) Brownstein, Dennis
2 Jay (Christina) Brownstein, Barbara Lynn Lahtinen, and the late
3 Gary Robert Brownstein; and the grandfather of seven;
4 therefore, be it
 
5     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL
6 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
7 Lester Brownstein, and we extend our sincere condolences to his
8 family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
9 further
 
10     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
11 presented to his family as an expression of our deepest
12 sympathy.
