| SENATE RESOLUTION
|

| WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois |
3 |
| learned with regret of the death of Thelma Whittington of |
4 |
| Benton on October 9, 2005; and
|
5 |
| WHEREAS, She was born on October 21, 1909 in the Frisco |
6 |
| area of Northern Township in Franklin County, the daughter of |
7 |
| John Ewing and Lavina McKenny Clinton; she married Herman Bruce |
8 |
| Whittington; he preceded her in death on August 25, 1971; and
|
9 |
| WHEREAS, Mrs. Whittington began her career of more than 37 |
10 |
| years as a school teacher in a one-room schoolhouse; she was |
11 |
| affectionately known to her pupils and many others as "Miss |
12 |
| Thelma"; and
|
13 |
| WHEREAS, She was a devoted member of North Benton Baptist |
14 |
| Church where she was an active participant in the JOY group and |
15 |
| played piano for seniors; she set an example for young and old |
16 |
| alike with her faithful church attendance; and
|
17 |
| WHEREAS, The passing of Thelma Whittington has been deeply |
18 |
| felt by many, especially her sister, Evelyn Beasley; her |
19 |
| special friend and caregiver, Shirley Martin; and numerous |
20 |
| nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and friends; |
21 |
| therefore, be it
|

| RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL |
23 |
| ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of |
24 |
| Thelma Whittington, and we extend our sincere condolences to |
25 |
| her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it |
26 |
| further
|
27 |
| RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
28 |
| presented to her family as an expression of our deepest |
29 |
| sympathy.
