| SENATE RESOLUTION
|

| WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois |
3 |
| learned with sadness of the death of Earl H. Long of West |
4 |
| Frankfort, formerly of Johnston City, on September 3, 2005; and
|
5 |
| WHEREAS, Mr. Long was born June 30, 1915, in Hopkinsville, |
6 |
| Kentucky, the son of Tom and Iva (Smith) Long; he married Velva |
7 |
| M. Howell on May 9, 1940, in Jackson, Missouri; and
|
8 |
| WHEREAS, He was a graduate of Johnston City High School and |
9 |
| of VTI at Southern Illinois University Carbondale in |
10 |
| electronics and was a veteran of World War II, serving in the |
11 |
| Signal Corp; and
|
12 |
| WHEREAS, Mr. Long was a retired coal miner, working for 46 |
13 |
| years and six months; he last worked at Old Ben as an |
14 |
| electrician and was a member of UMWA; he was a member of First |
15 |
| Christian Church of West Frankfort; and
|
16 |
| WHEREAS, He was preceded in death by his parents and his |
17 |
| brothers, Darrell, James Harold, and Buford; and
|
18 |
| WHEREAS, The passing of Earl Long is felt by all who knew |
19 |
| and loved him, especially his wife, Velva; his son, Dr. Earl D. |
20 |
| Long and wife Sandra; his grandchildren, Dr. Scott Long and |
21 |
| wife Rae and Steve Long and wife Kristy; his |
22 |
| great-grandchildren, Allison, Samantha, Josey, and Bailey |
23 |
| Long; and his sisters-in-law, Georgia, Ruth, and Virginia; |
24 |
| therefore, be it

| RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL |

| ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of |
27 |
| Earl Long and extend our sincerest condolences to his family, |
28 |
| friends, and community; and be it further
