| WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois |
3 |
| learned with regret of the death of Dr. James N. Schubert of |
4 |
| Arkport, New York, on Monday, September 5, 2005; and
|
5 |
| WHEREAS, Dr. Schubert was born on November 29, 1946, in |
6 |
| Syracuse, New York, to Glendon A. and Betty Jo (Neal) Schubert; |
7 |
| he completed his high school education in East Lansing, |
8 |
| Michigan, and received his Bachelor of Arts from Michigan State |
9 |
| University; he received his master's degree and doctorate in |
10 |
| international relations and political science from the |
11 |
| University of Hawaii; he married Gloria Beach Schubert on |
12 |
| February 10, 1968; and
|
13 |
| WHEREAS, He taught for two years at Southern Illinois |
14 |
| University and later taught political science at Alfred |
15 |
| University for 14 years, from 1978 to 1991; he taught at |
16 |
| Northern Illinois University from 1991 to the present and was |
17 |
| considered a pioneer in the field of biopolitics, which |
18 |
| examines the intersection of politics with the life sciences; |
19 |
| he was known to be a cutting edge scholar and a very engaging |
20 |
| teacher, making him one of the most sought out professors by |
21 |
| graduate students; and
|
22 |
| WHEREAS, The passing of Dr. Schubert has been deeply felt |
23 |
| by many, especially his wife, Gloria Beach Schubert; his father |
24 |
| and stepmother, Glendon Schubert and Natalie Klavanas; his |
25 |
| daughter, Lisa Marie (Christopher) Wood; his son, Erik James |
26 |
| (Layla) Schubert; his half-sisters, Susan (Greg) Simmons, |
27 |
| Kathy (Marty) Kaminski, and Robin Wright; his brother, Frank A. |
28 |
| (Barbara) Schubert; his sister-in-law, Hillary Beach; his |
29 |
| brother-in-law, Thomas (Barbara) Beach; his aunt and uncle, |
30 |
| Shah and Delores Nabkel; and his many nieces and nephews; he |
31 |
| was preceded in death by his mother, Betty Jo Schubert; |
