| SENATE RESOLUTION
|

| WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois |
3 |
| learned with regret of the death of Gerald Sodaro of Mount |
4 |
| Prospect on June 3, 2005; and
|
5 |
| WHEREAS, He was born in Chicago on May 4, 1936; he |
6 |
| graduated from Chicago schools and served honorably as a |
7 |
| Sergeant in the U.S. Marine Corps; and
|
8 |
| WHEREAS, His career in corporate management included |
9 |
| positions as Director of Sales, Marketing, Exports, and |
10 |
| Advertising; after early retirement in 1992, he devoted his |
11 |
| remaining years to unpaid volunteer work with various |
12 |
| non-profit organizations, primarily writing about and |
13 |
| advocating for a variety of causes; among the issues he |
14 |
| supported were U.S. sovereignty, immigration reform, smaller |
15 |
| government, fiscal conservatism, lower taxes, capital |
16 |
| punishment, and increasing medical research funding for |
17 |
| prostate cancer; and
|
18 |
| WHEREAS, In 1999, he wrote the legislation to allow a tax |
19 |
| check-off donation on the State income tax form for prostate |
20 |
| cancer research; he lobbied successfully for passage of the |
21 |
| bill, which raised over $600,000 for research; and
|
22 |
| WHEREAS, The passing of Gerald Sodaro has been deeply felt |
23 |
| by many, especially his wife, Doris; his mother, Betty Sodaro; |
24 |
| and his sister, Pat (Norman) Goone; he was blessed with many |
25 |
| supportive friends; therefore, be it
|

| RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL |
27 |
| ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of |
28 |
| Gerald Sodaro, and we extend our sincere condolences to his |
29 |
| family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it |
