| WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois |
3 |
| learned with regret of the death of LeRoy H. "Bud" Ellis of |
4 |
| Gurnee, formerly of Lindenhurst, on Monday, August 22, 2005; |
5 |
| and
|
6 |
| WHEREAS, Mr. Ellis was born on August 2, 1916, to Florence |
7 |
| and Harry Ellis in Madison, Wisconsin; and
|
8 |
| WHEREAS, He was appointed Fire Chief of the Great Lakes |
9 |
| Naval Training Center in 1953 and served until 1975; as Fire |
10 |
| Chief, he oversaw operations and staff of the Bases' three fire |
11 |
| stations and also coordinated instruction and training at the |
12 |
| Great Lakes Fire Training School; he was a noted authority on |
13 |
| fire prevention, fire safety, and fire inspection; and
|
14 |
| WHEREAS, In 1975, Mr. Ellis accepted a position as |
15 |
| Superintendent of Logistics for the Wells Corporation on the |
16 |
| Trans Atlantic Pipeline in Prudhoe Bay, Alaska; after returning |
17 |
| from his work in Alaska in 1976, he was appointed Director of |
18 |
| Fire and Security at the Great Lakes Naval Training Center and |
19 |
| served in that capacity until his retirement in 1980; over the |
20 |
| course of his career at Great Lakes, he received several |
21 |
| Meritorious Civilian Service Awards; at his final retirement |
22 |
| ceremony in 1980, Mr. Ellis was recognized for his "Unyielding |
23 |
| Calm and Unmistakable Humor"; and
|
24 |
| WHEREAS, In his retirement, he stayed active serving on The |
25 |
| Lake County Sheriff's Merit Commission and as a Board Member of |
26 |
| the Lake Villa Fire Protection District; he was a true |
27 |
| gentleman who always had a warm smile and a great handshake for |
28 |
| everyone; and
|
29 |
| WHEREAS, LeRoy H. "Bud" Ellis will be deeply missed by |
30 |
| many; he was preceded in death by the love of his life, his |
