| SENATE RESOLUTION

| WHEREAS, First Lieutenant David L. Giaimo of Waukegan died |
3 |
| August 12, 2005, while serving his country as a tank commander |
4 |
| and squad leader in the U.S. Army in Tikrit, Iraq; and
|
5 |
| WHEREAS, First Lieutenant Giaimo was a lifelong resident of |
6 |
| Waukegan; he attended St. Anastasia Grade School, Webster |
7 |
| Middle School, and Waukegan High School; while at Waukegan High |
8 |
| School, he was a member of the National Honor Society, |
9 |
| graduating Summa Cum Laude, and a Scholar Athlete; he also |
10 |
| played varsity baseball and was on the rifle team all four |
11 |
| years, serving as a captain in his junior and senior years and |
12 |
| taking a state championship for both the 1997-1998 and |
13 |
| 1998-1999 seasons; and
|
14 |
| WHEREAS, He earned a scholarship to Iowa State University |
15 |
| (ISU) through the JROTC program, a program that inspired him to |
16 |
| pursue a military career; he majored in finance and minored in |
17 |
| military science, graduating in 2003; and
|
18 |
| WHEREAS, He was commissioned in the U.S. Army on December |
19 |
| 20, 2003; he began his military career as a gold bar
recruiter |

| at ISU; he completed officer training on August 24, 2004, at |
21 |
| Fort Knox, Kentucky, and was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 7th |
22 |
| Infantry, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division, Fort |
23 |
| Stewart, Georgia; he was deployed in support of Operation Iraqi
|
24 |
| Freedom III on January 7, 2005, and was promoted to 1st |
25 |
| Lieutenant on July 5, 2005; and
|
26 |
| WHEREAS, He was preceded in death by his maternal |
27 |
| grandmother, Lillian Ebner, and paternal grandparents, Thomas |
28 |
| and Lorraine Giaimo; and
|
29 |
| WHEREAS, He is survived by his father, Thomas Giaimo; his |
30 |
| mother and stepfather, Julie and Frank Derrig; his sister, |
