SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois learned with regret of the death of West Nash, Jr., on Thursday, July 7, 2005; and

WHEREAS, He was born in St. Louis, Missouri, on November 12, 1949, to Dorothy Bessie Campbell Nash and West Nash, Sr.; he spent his childhood in East St. Louis, where he was involved in activities such as the Boys Club of America and the Boy Scouts, achieving the Life Merit Status; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Nash attended School District No. 189, graduating from Lincoln Senior High School, where he was one of its outstanding students; it was there that he developed a serious interest in math and science; he won awards at the St. Louis Science Fair for three consecutive years and graduated in the top 10% of his class; he went on to attend Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, where he pursued a major in chemistry; he later returned home and attended Southern Illinois University in Edwardsville and State Community College of East St. Louis; he received an Associate in Math and Science from State Community College and a Bachelor of Science in Mass Communications Radio & Television Broadcasting from SIU-E; and

WHEREAS, He had worked for Metropolitan Community College as an Audio Visual Technician and Media Specialist; he was a professional photographer and worked part time as a broadcast engineer; at the time of his demise, he worked for Harris-Stowe State College in St. Louis as a Computer Information Technologist and Network Specialist; he was a member of the East St. Louis Alumnae Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity; he pledged in the fall of 1996; and

WHEREAS, In 1972, Mr. Nash married Eva Devine; to this union two children were born, Dante and Ayvonjanai; in 1982, he married Faye Allen Wells, who is the mother of his stepdaughter, Charity Wells; they were married for 16 years; and

WHEREAS, The passing of West Nash, Jr., has been deeply felt by many, especially his children, Mr. Dante Tylon Nash, Miss Ayvonjanai Marie Althea Nash, and Charity Nicole Wells; his grandson, Christian Wells; his sisters, Mrs. Marinda (Charles) Nash Ferrell, Miss Sylvia Nash, Mrs. Cynthia (Richard) Nash Jones, and Mrs. Jeanette (David) Nash Curtis; his loving aunts, uncles, and cousins; and his most special and cherished friends, Miss Rose Hargrove, Mr. Willie Walker, and David and Marquita Brown; he was preceded in death by his parents, Dorothy B. Campbell Nash (Upchurch), West Nash, Sr., Moses Campbell, Sr., Dorothy Olivia Campbell, and his sister, Helen Nash; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of West Nash, Jr., and we extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to his family as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
