SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois
3 learned with regret of the death of Al Oxford of Johnston City
4 on Tuesday, June 7, 2005; and
 
5     WHEREAS, He was born on January 6, 1943, in Hardin County
6 to Gilbert and Cora (Ralph) Oxford; he married Iolanda (Serena)
7 on April 27, 1977, in Harrisburg; and
 
8     WHEREAS, Mr. Oxford was a retired coal miner, last working
9 at Rend Lake Consolidated Coal in 2003, and was a union
10 representative for the United Mine Workers of America; he was a
11 veteran of the Cuban Missile Crisis Bay of Pigs from 1960 to
12 1963, serving in the U.S. Navy; and
 
13     WHEREAS, He was a member of the Lake Creek Masonic Lodge
14 and a board member of the F.R.C.; he was a Democratic Precinct
15 Committeeman, had served on the Johnston City School Board, and
16 had been a Johnston City alderman; he was member of the
17 Hurricane Memorial Baptist Church of Herrin, where he served as
18 a Trustee and a Yokefellow; he was a member of the Buccaneer's
19 Club of Johnston City; and
 
20     WHEREAS, The passing of Al Oxford has been deeply felt by
21 many, especially his wife, Iolanda; his son, Brian Oxford and
22 wife Shelley; his daughter, Tonya Oxford Greenrod; his
23 grandchildren, Ryan Oxford, Courtney Oxford, Kayleigh Oxford,
24 Aaron Pogue, and Kaci Pogue; his sister, Wanda Cash; his
25 brother, Russell Oxford and wife Jackie; his sister, Alma Gross
26 and husband Harold; his sister, Betty Cash and husband Ed; his
27 brother, Harry Oxford and wife Jane; his brother Dave Oxford;
28 and his many nieces and nephews; he was preceded in death by
29 his parents and his brothers, Winford and Kenny Oxford;

1     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL
2 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
3 Al Oxford, and we extend our deepest sympathy to his family,
4 friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further
 
5     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
6 presented to his family as an expression of our sincere
7 condolences for the loss of their loved one.
