SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois
3 learned with sadness of the death of Elisha Irvin, Jr., known
4 by some as "Gator" and some as "Chief", on June 3, 2005; and
 
5     WHEREAS, He was born to Elisha, Sr. and Elma on November 6,
6 1947 in Waukegan, the second oldest of six children; after
7 graduating from Zion-Benton Township High School in 1966, he
8 was called to defend his county; and
 
9     WHEREAS, Mr. Irvin valiantly served his country as a member
10 of the U.S. Army, Company A, 2nd Battalion, 60th Infantry, 9th
11 Infantry Division; he received the Bronze Star medal in January
12 of 1969; after an honorable discharge, he worked at the Great
13 Lakes Naval Base as a foreman; and
 
14     WHEREAS, In May of 1975, he changed careers and pursued his
15 lifelong dream to become a policeman; he worked for the North
16 Chicago Police Department for 25 years, retiring as Chief of
17 Police in February of 2001; he served one term as Alderman of
18 the 4th Ward for the City of North Chicago; he worked at Levy
19 Security Corporation in Chicago for two years, where he made
20 many lifelong friends; he was a hard worker and believed any
21 job worth doing was worth doing right; and
 
22     WHEREAS, Mr. Irvin was a loyal member at Beautiful Gate
23 Temple COGIC in Zion for some years, where he served as the
24 President of the Benevolent Fund; he loved life, golfing,
25 Sunday school, and riding his Honda Gold Wing; and
 
26     WHEREAS, The passing of Elisha Irvin, Jr. has been deeply
27 felt by all who knew and loved him, especially his wife,
28 Felecia; he was his wife's best friend and the love of her
29 life; he is also missed by his mother; his five children and
30 grandchildren; his brothers, Werner and William; his twin

1 sisters, Doris and Diane; his sister-in-law; his many uncles,
2 aunts, nieces, nephews, and cousins; and his best friend, Mack;
3 he was preceded in death by his father, Elisha, Sr., and his
4 brother, Robert; therefore, be it
 
5     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL
6 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
7 Elisha Irvin, Jr., and we offer our sincerest condolences to
8 his family and friends; and be it further
 
9     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
10 presented to his family as an expression of our sympathy.
