| ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, For 37 years, Kathleen L. "Kay" Wojcik dedicated | ||||||
3 | her life to serving the people of the northwest suburbs of | ||||||
4 | Chicago; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, She won her first elective office in 1968 as | ||||||
6 | Schaumburg Township Clerk; and
| ||||||
7 | WHEREAS, She became a State legislator in 1983, serving in | ||||||
8 | the Illinois House for 20 years; and
| ||||||
9 | WHEREAS, Kay earned the respect and admiration of her | ||||||
10 | colleagues in the House of Representatives, rising to the | ||||||
11 | position of Assistant Majority Leader; and
| ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, She advanced to the Illinois Senate in 2003, | ||||||
13 | serving in the chamber until 2005; and
| ||||||
14 | WHEREAS, She is a staunch defender of her constituents and | ||||||
15 | always puts their interests above her own; and
| ||||||
16 | WHEREAS, She fought hard for issues affecting health care, | ||||||
17 | women, children, and the elderly; and
| ||||||
18 | WHEREAS, She crafted legislation to change the 24-hour | ||||||
19 | drive-through delivery policy, giving women and newborns at | ||||||
20 | least 48 hours in the hospital after birth; and
| ||||||
21 | WHEREAS, She has been a champion for the disabled and | ||||||
22 | fought to raise awareness of special needs individuals; and
| ||||||
23 | WHEREAS, Kay's dedication to improving the lives of | ||||||
24 | Illinoisans earned her dozens of legislative awards from such | ||||||
25 | groups as the Illinois Association of Homes for the Aging, the | ||||||
26 | Illinois Hospital Association, the Western DuPage Special |

| |||||||
1 | Recreation Association, the Illinois Nurses Association, and | ||||||
2 | the Illinois Dietetic Association; and
| ||||||
3 | WHEREAS, Her alma mater, Harper College in Palatine, named | ||||||
4 | its state-of-the-art conference building the "Wojcik | ||||||
5 | Conference Center" out of appreciation of the senator's ability | ||||||
6 | to secure more than $1.1 million for the facility's | ||||||
7 | construction; and
| ||||||
8 | WHEREAS, She was a leading force in aiding the State's | ||||||
9 | growing winery and grape industry; and
| ||||||
10 | WHEREAS, She is a strong advocate for fiscal responsibility | ||||||
11 | in government and low taxation for Illinois residents; and | ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, She is a renowned world globetrotter, traveling to | ||||||
13 | such exotic locales as Bangkok, Russia, and China; and
| ||||||
14 | WHEREAS, Kay has a zestful love of life, enjoying good | ||||||
15 | food, good wine, and good times with family and friends; and
| ||||||
16 | WHEREAS, She is respected by her colleagues from both | ||||||
17 | political parties for her honesty and integrity; and
| ||||||
18 | WHEREAS, She is a loving wife, mother, and grandmother; and
| ||||||
19 | WHEREAS, Kay will be remembered as a Senator who took her | ||||||
20 | responsibility as an advocate for her district seriously; | ||||||
21 | therefore, be it

22 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL | ||||||
23 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we recognize Kathleen | ||||||
24 | L. "Kay" Wojcik for her accomplishments as she leaves the | ||||||
25 | Illinois Senate, and we wish her success in her future | ||||||
26 | endeavors; and be it further

2 | resolution be presented to Kathleen L. "Kay" Wojcik to honor | ||||||
