SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois learned with regret of the recent death of Joseph Paul Abruzino of LaGrange Park; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Abruzino was born in Chicago on October 14, 1946; he received a B.A. cum laude from Northeastern University in 1979; he did post-graduate work at John Marshall Law School in Chicago and earned a Master of Science from Spertus College; he married Mary Louise Kenny on May 14, 1986; and

WHEREAS, He valiantly served his country as a member of the United States Marine Corps from 1963 to 1968 in Vietnam; he was decorated with the Order of the Gallantry Cross with Palm; and

WHEREAS, He was the Executive Director of the Proviso Township Mental Health Commission in Hillside; he dedicated his professional life to the special needs of the citizens of Proviso Township for close to 30 years; and

WHEREAS, He previously worked with the professional managerial science office and as a methods and procedures advisor at the Department of Labor in Chicago and as a placement officer with the Placement Registry at the American Agricultural Economics Association; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Abruzino was the chair of the Commission for Cooperative Action in Proviso Township from 1984 to 1986; he had been a member of Proviso Mental Health Affiliation since 1976; he was an organizer of Citizens for Bush in 1988, a trustee on the Proviso Township Board of Trustees from 1973 to 1976, and a trustee for the Village of Bellwood from 1975 to 1979; he was a member of the Illinois Municipal League, the Proviso Municipal League, the Illinois Association of Mental Health Authorities, the Council for International Relations and UN Affairs, and the Lions; he was a Roman Catholic and a Republican; and

WHEREAS, The passing of Joseph Paul Abruzino has been deeply felt by many, especially his wife, Mary; his children, Kimberly (Ryan) Philo, Kristen Mrase, and Jeffrey Abruzino; his grandchildren, Sydney, Brad, Brooke, Jessica, and Jason; his sister, Donna Olech; and his niece and nephews, Robbie, Jon, Mark, and Elizabeth; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Joseph P. Abruzino, and we extend our deepest sympathy to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to his family as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
