| WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois |

| learned with sadness of the death of Valerie Shavers of Chicago |
4 |
| on April 26, 2005; and
|
5 |
| WHEREAS, Mrs. Shavers, also known as "Cakes" and "Val", was |
6 |
| born in Chicago on
June 13, 1962, to Mozell Shavers and Dan |
7 |
| Delaney; she was the third of four children; and
|
8 |
| WHEREAS, She attended Herzl Elementary School and Richard |
9 |
| T. Crane High School; she worked a variety of jobs, and her |
10 |
| most recent place of employment was at Wilma Rudolph Learning |
11 |
| Center where she worked in Food Services; she always smiled |
12 |
| when greeting people when she walked into the building and had |
13 |
| a great love for her co-workers; and
|
14 |
| WHEREAS, She opened her heart and shared whatever she had |
15 |
| with anyone who needed assistance; her home was an open door to |
16 |
| many who had no place to go; she cared about everyone, |
17 |
| especially children; she loved life and lived it to the |
18 |
| fullest; and
|
19 |
| WHEREAS, The passing of Valerie Shavers was felt by all who |
20 |
| knew and loved her, especially her husband, J.C. Halums; her |
21 |
| children, James Shavers (Kimberley), Melanie Shavers, and |
22 |
| Jerome Shavers; her mother, Mozell Shavers; her sisters, Valeda |
23 |
| Shavers and Charnell Shavers (Edward); her brother, Daryl L. |
24 |
| Shavers (Lucy); her grandchildren, Jamesha Shavers, Rashad |
25 |
| Johnson, and Charles Montgomery; her father, Dan Delaney Jr.; |
26 |
| her sisters and brothers, Valerie King (Thomas), Donna Delaney, |
27 |
| Marsh Delaney, Jarvis Delaney, Ruth Mae Young, Patricia |

| Delaney, and Ronald Delaney;
her aunts and uncles, Katie |
