| SENATE RESOLUTION
|

| WHEREAS, The first Parent Appreciation Day occurred on the |
3 |
| first Saturday of August of 2003; community leader Alonzo |
4 |
| Stewart of Romeoville thought it would be nice for kids to, in |
5 |
| some fashion, thank their parents; in 2004, Parent Appreciation |
6 |
| Day was moved to its permanent home on the second Saturday of |
7 |
| August; and
|
8 |
| WHEREAS, Parent Appreciation Day has become a staple in |
9 |
| Romeoville, and the event and its organizer has received high |
10 |
| praise from participants, business partners, and colleagues; |
11 |
| and
|
12 |
| WHEREAS, Recognizing a statewide Parent Appreciation Day |
13 |
| would encourage communities to use their creativity, their |
14 |
| natural resources (residents), and their commitment to a safe, |
15 |
| pleasant place to live, work, and shop to craft their very own |
16 |
| recognition event to appreciate parents and adults; and
|
17 |
| WHEREAS, Youth, community groups, or schools can lead |
18 |
| initiatives; the process of creating, designing, and |
19 |
| implementing the event will foster growth, teamwork, and |
20 |
| leadership among all involved; this will return exponential |
21 |
| benefits to the community as civic awareness and feelings of |
22 |
| ownership in the community's future increase; therefore, be it
|
23 |
| RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL |
24 |
| ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we recognize the second |
25 |
| Saturday of August as Parent Appreciation Day with activities |
26 |
| in communities across the State; this will be a time for |
27 |
| communities to join hands and hearts to pass the baton of |
28 |
| appreciation to our new generations of young leaders.
