| WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois |
3 |
| learned with regret of the death of Denzil R. Walker of Herrin |
4 |
| on Friday, May 13, 2005; and
|
5 |
| WHEREAS, He was born on July 12, 1933, in Herrin, to Floyd |
6 |
| "Grassy" and Fern (Compton) Walker; he was a standout football |
7 |
| player at Herrin High School in the 1950s and was a member of |
8 |
| the Class of 1951; he was inducted into the Herrin High School |
9 |
| Hall of Fame in 1997; and
|
10 |
| WHEREAS, He married Adeline (Toigo) in Marion on November |
11 |
| 13, 1964; he was the retired vice president, CEO of the Bank of |
12 |
| Herrin and a longtime Herrin businessman, retiring in 2001; and
|
13 |
| WHEREAS, Mr. Walker valiantly served his country as a |
14 |
| member of the U.S. Army during the Korean War; he was a member |
15 |
| of the Herrin Elks, Pigion Inn, the American Legion, Rotary |
16 |
| Club, the Herrin Chamber of Commerce, First United Methodist |
17 |
| Church, and he served on the Herrin Civic Center Board; he |
18 |
| enjoyed golfing at Franklin County Country Club and Crab |
19 |
| Orchard Golf Course; and
|
20 |
| WHEREAS, He was very active in the Herrin community and |
21 |
| played an important role in numerous projects, including |
22 |
| helping to organize the Herrinfesta Italiana Golf Tournament; |
23 |
| volunteer work was a way of life for him; in 2001, he was |
24 |
| honored by the Herrin Spokesman as one of the area's Unsung |
25 |
| Heroes; and
|
26 |
| WHEREAS, The passing of Denzil R. Walker has been deeply |
27 |
| felt by many, especially his wife, Adeline Walker; his |
28 |
| daughters, Delina and her husband Peter Nugent, Holly and her |
29 |
| husband Vern Larkin, and Kelly King; his six grandchildren; his |
30 |
| one great-grandchild; his brothers, Jerry and his wife Joyce |
