SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois
3 learned with sadness of the death of Rev. Stanley T. Wisniewski
4 of Chicago on January 27, 2005; and
 
5     WHEREAS, He was born on the Southeast Side of Chicago in
6 1933; he attended St. Viator grammar school and Loyola Academy,
7 where he graduated in 1951; he then entered the Jesuit
8 novitiate in Milford, Ohio; and
 
9     WHEREAS, During his studies to become a priest, Father
10 Wisniewski also attended Loyola University-Chicago, where he
11 received a degree in Latin in 1956 and a master's degree in
12 English and philosophy in 1962; and
 
13     WHEREAS, From 1958 to 1961, he taught English at St. Xavier
14 High School in Cincinnati; he then went on to complete his
15 studies in theology and philosophy at West Baden College in
16 West Baden Springs, Indiana, where he was ordained a priest in
17 June 1964; and
 
18     WHEREAS, Following his ordination, Father Wisniewski went
19 on to teach at St. Ignatius College Prep in Chicago in 1966; he
20 spent the next 22 years there; and
 
21     WHEREAS, He loved his students and he really tried to get
22 inside of their minds and hearts to see what motivated them; he
23 knew that grades were not necessarily the most important thing
24 in life, so he could put all of that into perspective; he also
25 had an unassuming sense of humor that brightened his
26 classrooms; and
 
27     WHEREAS, In line with his work as a life-long educator, he
28 was an editor for "Correct Writing", a textbook used nationally
29 in Jesuit schools; and

1     WHEREAS, He spent the late 1980s and 1990s at churches in
2 Nevada; in 1988, he was assigned to Reno, where he was
3 associate pastor of Our Lady of the Snows Parish until 1991;
4 for a year after that, he was associate pastor of the Holy
5 Family Catholic Church in Las Vegas; in 1992, he moved to
6 Fallon, Nevada, where he was pastor at St. Patrick's Parish; in
7 1999, he returned to Chicago to serve as rector of St.
8 Stephen's Shrine, a small parish on the Southwest Side; and
 
9     WHEREAS, The passing of Rev. Stanley T. Wisniewski is felt
10 by all who knew and loved him, especially his sister, Susan
11 Zurek, and his brother, Thomas; therefore, be it
 
12     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL
13 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
14 Rev. Stanley T. Wisniewski and we extend our sincere
15 condolences to his family, friends, and community; and be it
16 further
 
17     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
18 presented to his family as an expression of our deepest
19 sympathy.
