| SENATE RESOLUTION

| WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois |
3 |
| learned with regret of the death of James Duke Curran of Quincy |
4 |
| on Saturday, April 9, 2005; and
|
5 |
| WHEREAS, He was born on July 23, 1921, in Chicago to Edward |
6 |
| and Florida Mary (Meyer) Curran; he married Barbara Jean Lee on |
7 |
| November 18, 1944, in Bloomington; she preceded him in death on |
8 |
| December 25, 1996; he later married Jane (Gardner) Tanner on |
9 |
| January 26, 2002, at St. Peter Catholic Church; and
|
10 |
| WHEREAS, Mr. Curran was a 1941 graduate of Quincy Senior |
11 |
| High School, where he was an All-State football player; he is a |
12 |
| member of the Quincy High School Hall of Fame in both football |
13 |
| and track; he continued his football career after high school, |
14 |
| becoming an All-American football player for the University of |
15 |
| Iowa Hawkeyes and also playing for the Navy Seahawks while in |
16 |
| the service; and
|
17 |
| WHEREAS, He received his bachelor's degree from the |
18 |
| University of Iowa and later received a master's degree in |
19 |
| science; he valiantly served his country as a member of the |
20 |
| U.S. Navy Air Corps during World War II, serving as a night |
21 |
| fighter pilot and a pilot instructor; and |
22 |
| WHEREAS, Over the years, Mr. Curran owned and operated |
23 |
| Curran Real Estate and Curran Construction Company; from 1975 |
24 |
| until his retirement in 1987, he was the activities director |
25 |
| for the Illinois Veterans Home; and
|
26 |
| WHEREAS, He was an active and devoted member of St. Peter |
27 |
| Catholic Church; he was a member of the St. Peter Social |
28 |
| Concerns Committee, a member of the Knights of Columbus, and a |
29 |
| past board member of the Madonna House; and
