| SENATE RESOLUTION
|

| WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois |
3 |
| learned with sadness of the death of Olie L. Musgrave of Marion |
4 |
| on April 6, 2005; and
|
5 |
| WHEREAS, Mr. Musgrave was born February 15, 1934, in |
6 |
| Berryville, just outside of Jonesboro, the son of Willis Ervil |
7 |
| and Trula Ozell (Edmonds) Musgrave; he was married to Betty |
8 |
| June McNail at Coal Bank Springs Baptist Church, near Crab |
9 |
| Orchard, on September 1, 1956; and
|
10 |
| WHEREAS, He graduated from Anna-Jonesboro High School and |
11 |
| Draughon's Business College in Paducah, Kentucky; he started |
12 |
| his professional career with Household Finance before joining |
13 |
| the Army in 1956; he worked for Household Finance again in |
14 |
| Indianapolis after his discharge in 1958; and
|
15 |
| WHEREAS, He and his wife returned to Southern Illinois in |
16 |
| 1960 when he took a job in the installment loan department of |
17 |
| the Bank of Marion, where he rose to the position of bank |
18 |
| president in the 1970s; he served as executive vice-president |
19 |
| of Peoples Bank in Marion when the 1982 tornado hit and dropped |
20 |
| a car upside down on his desk; during the rebuilding, he |
21 |
| oversaw that bank holding company's operations in Christopher |
22 |
| at the Rend Lake Bank; in 1983, First Bank and Trust Co. of |
23 |
| Mount Vernon hired him as their new president and CEO, where he |
24 |
| stayed for just over a decade until Mercantile Bank bought the |
25 |
| institution; he then worked briefly as president of Heartland |
26 |
| Savings and Loan in Herrin before deciding that Southern |
27 |
| Illinois needed a new bank; in 1994, he began organizing the |
28 |
| South Pointe Bank, which opened its doors in the spring of |
29 |
| 1995, and has since grown to nine branch and ATM locations in |
30 |
| four communities in Southern Illinois; and
|
31 |
| WHEREAS, He was a longtime member of Second Baptist Church |

| in Marion, where he served in various capacities, but |
2 |
| particularly as a Sunday school teacher over the years; and
|
3 |
| WHEREAS, Active in community affairs in the various places |
4 |
| where he worked and lived, he was honored as a "Paul Harris |
5 |
| Fellow" while he was a member of the Rotary Club of Mount |
6 |
| Vernon; since the 1970s, he provided leadership to community |
7 |
| organizations, including the Chambers of Commerce and Rotary |
8 |
| Clubs of Marion and Mount Vernon, Southern Illinois |
9 |
| Incorporated, the Marion Civic Center Foundation, which he |
10 |
| helped found, Big Brothers/Big Sisters, the Illinois Bankers |
11 |
| Association, and the Jackson County Business Development Corp; |
12 |
| while a resident of Mount Vernon, he was elected twice as a |
13 |
| member of the board of trustees for Rend Lake College; and
|
14 |
| WHEREAS, He was preceded in death by his parents, a |
15 |
| stillborn brother, and one niece, Shirley Gibbs; and
|
16 |
| WHEREAS, The passing of Olie L. Musgrave is felt by all who |
17 |
| knew and loved him, especially his wife of 48 years, Betty; his |
18 |
| son, Jon Musgrave; his two sisters and brothers-in-law, Lorene |
19 |
| and Dr. Jean Jones and Wilma and Paul Davis; his brother and |
20 |
| sister-in-law, Ira Willis and Freda Musgrave; and his two |
21 |
| nephews and four nieces; on his wife's side, he is survived by |
22 |
| two brothers-in-law, Bob McNail (wife Sue) and Don McNail (wife |
23 |
| Mary), as well as four nieces and one nephew; he is also |
24 |
| survived by numerous great-nephews and nieces on both sides of |
25 |
| his family, plus many other relatives and friends; therefore, |
26 |
| be it

| RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL |
28 |
| ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of |
29 |
| Olie L. Musgrave and extend our sincerest condolences to his |
30 |
| family, friends, and community; and be it further
