SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois
3 learned with regret of the death of Bennett V. Dickmann of
4 Edwardsville on Tuesday, March 15, 2005; and
 
5     WHEREAS, He was born on September 5, 1916, in Peters'
6 Station, which is now Glen Carbon, to John and Anna Mateyka
7 Dickmann; he married Virginia Ward on January 4, 1939, in
8 Edwardsville; she preceded him in death on August 21, 1999; and
 
9     WHEREAS, Mr. Dickmann was a graduate of Edwardsville High
10 School and attended St. Louis University; his 43 years of
11 employment with the United States Postal Service was
12 interrupted by World War II, during which he valiantly served
13 his country in Europe with the Army Air Corps; and
 
14     WHEREAS, He was appointed postmaster by President Lyndon
15 Johnson and served in that capacity for 20 years; during his
16 early tenure, he was charged with the construction of the
17 Edwardsville Federal Building and Post Office and
18 implementation of delivery services to SIUE; and
 
19     WHEREAS, His memberships included St. Boniface Catholic
20 Church, the American Legion Post 199, V.F.W. Post 1299, a past
21 member of the Edwardsville Knights of Columbus, Edwardsville
22 Rotary, and the National Association of Postmasters of the
23 United States (NAPUS); and
 
24     WHEREAS, The passing of Bennett V. Dickmann has been deeply
25 felt by many, especially his sons, Bennett W. Dickmann and
26 wife, Kathy, and Bruce Dickmann and wife, Donna; his daughters,
27 Barbara Dickmann McNeill and Bonita Dickmann Pasek; his
28 grandchildren, Bradley and Aubrey Dickmann, Brian and MaryBeth
29 Dickmann, Jane Reames, Robin Gallaher, Rita Wehling, Randy
30 Wehling, Sarah and Susan Pasek, and Anne Bertelsmann; his six

1 great-grandchildren; and his sister, Leona Ostendorf; in
2 addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by
3 his brothers, Hilbert, Leonard, and John Dickmann; his sisters,
4 Margaret "Margie" Thurston, Estelle Toner, Ann Hickey, and an
5 infant sister; and his son-in-law, Glenn McNeill; therefore, be
6 it
 
7     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL
8 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
9 Bennett V. Dickmann, and we extend our deepest sympathy to his
10 family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
11 further
 
12     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
13 presented to his family as an expression of our sincere
14 condolences.
