| SENATE RESOLUTION
|

| WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois |
3 |
| learned with regret of the death of Edward D. Cox of Galesburg |
4 |
| on Saturday, March 12, 2005; and
|
5 |
| WHEREAS, He was born on August 7, 1921, in Gilmer, Texas, |
6 |
| to Grover Cleveland and Hattie Maud Childress Cox; he married |
7 |
| F. Elizabeth Polson on November 21, 1945, in Glasgow, Kentucky; |
8 |
| she preceded him in death on December 27, 2000; he was also |
9 |
| preceded in death by his parents, a brother, and two sisters; |
10 |
| and
|
11 |
| WHEREAS, Mr. Cox valiantly served his country as a member |
12 |
| of the 83rd Infantry of the U.S. Army during World War II; he |
13 |
| fought in Five Star Campaign, the Battle of the Bulge, and the |
14 |
| Invasion of Normandy, landing on Utah Beach on D-Day; he |
15 |
| received a Purple Heart and five Bronze Stars; and
|
16 |
| WHEREAS, He worked for Illinois Power Company for 36 years, |
17 |
| retiring in 1982; he was baptized in First Christian Church in |
18 |
| Kentucky; he was a member of the Ralph M. Noble American Legion |
19 |
| Post 285; and
|
20 |
| WHEREAS, The passing of Edward D. Cox has been deeply felt |
21 |
| by many, especially his son, Daryl (and Pamela) Cox; his |
22 |
| daughter, Gwen (and Don) Owen; his seven grandchildren; and his |
23 |
| two great-grandchildren; therefore, be it
|

| RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL |
25 |
| ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of |
26 |
| Edward D. Cox, and we extend our sincere condolences to his |
27 |
| family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it |
28 |
| further
