| SENATE RESOLUTION

| WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois |
3 |
| learned with regret of the death of Linda J. Bourke Hilbert of |
4 |
| Elmhurst on Thursday, January 20, 2005; and
|
5 |
| WHEREAS, She was born in Oak Park, raised in Elmhurst, and |
6 |
| graduated from York Community High School after which she |
7 |
| received some nursing training; she then took an office |
8 |
| position at Chicago and Northwestern Railroad, where she stayed |
9 |
| for 10 years; and
|
10 |
| WHEREAS, Nearly 30 years ago, she married Richard Hilbert |
11 |
| and the couple started a janitorial cleaning service called |
12 |
| Rulirist Enterprises in Addison; although she did not graduate |
13 |
| from nursing school, she wanted to use some of the skills she |
14 |
| had learned and took care of elderly individuals in their |
15 |
| homes; and
|
16 |
| WHEREAS, Through much of her adult life, Mrs. Hilbert was |
17 |
| involved in Democratic party politics; when she was elected to |
18 |
| the DuPage County Board in 2000, she was the first Democrat |
19 |
| elected to that board since the 1980s, and one of only a |
20 |
| handful since the Civil War; she served on the County Board for |
21 |
| a two-year term; instead of taking on an adversarial role, Mrs. |
22 |
| Hilbert worked with her counterparts on the board; and
|
23 |
| WHEREAS, Mrs. Hilbert had a lifelong passion for preserving |
24 |
| and protecting the environment; she was a people person and was |
25 |
| well-liked; she deeply cared for the residents of DuPage |
26 |
| County, especially for senior citizens and kids; she was an |
27 |
| advocate for many; and
|
28 |
| WHEREAS, The passing of Linda J. Bourke Hilbert has been |
29 |
| deeply felt by many, especially her husband, Richard Hilbert; |
30 |
| her brother, Steven Bourke; and her mother, Ruth Bourke; |
