SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois
3 learned with regret of the death of Linda J. Bourke Hilbert of
4 Elmhurst on Thursday, January 20, 2005; and
 
5     WHEREAS, She was born in Oak Park, raised in Elmhurst, and
6 graduated from York Community High School after which she
7 received some nursing training; she then took an office
8 position at Chicago and Northwestern Railroad, where she stayed
9 for 10 years; and
 
10     WHEREAS, Nearly 30 years ago, she married Richard Hilbert
11 and the couple started a janitorial cleaning service called
12 Rulirist Enterprises in Addison; although she did not graduate
13 from nursing school, she wanted to use some of the skills she
14 had learned and took care of elderly individuals in their
15 homes; and
 
16     WHEREAS, Through much of her adult life, Mrs. Hilbert was
17 involved in Democratic party politics; when she was elected to
18 the DuPage County Board in 2000, she was the first Democrat
19 elected to that board since the 1980s, and one of only a
20 handful since the Civil War; she served on the County Board for
21 a two-year term; instead of taking on an adversarial role, Mrs.
22 Hilbert worked with her counterparts on the board; and
 
23     WHEREAS, Mrs. Hilbert had a lifelong passion for preserving
24 and protecting the environment; she was a people person and was
25 well-liked; she deeply cared for the residents of DuPage
26 County, especially for senior citizens and kids; she was an
27 advocate for many; and
 
28     WHEREAS, The passing of Linda J. Bourke Hilbert has been
29 deeply felt by many, especially her husband, Richard Hilbert;
30 her brother, Steven Bourke; and her mother, Ruth Bourke;

1 therefore, be it
 
2     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL
3 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
4 Linda J. Bourke Hilbert, and we extend our deepest sympathy to
5 her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it
6 further
 
7     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
8 presented to her family as an expression of our sincere
9 condolences.
