| WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois |
3 |
| learned with sadness of the death of John F. Whiteside of |
4 |
| Joliet on Saturday, January 22, 2005; and
|
5 |
| WHEREAS, He was born in Vienna, and was a longtime Joliet |
6 |
| area resident; he was a graduate of Northern Illinois |
7 |
| University, Joliet Junior College, and Vienna High School; and
|
8 |
| WHEREAS, Mr. Whiteside was a United States Air Force |
9 |
| veteran and a featured columnist at the Joliet Herald News, |
10 |
| where he started his career as a beat reporter in 1971; and
|
11 |
| WHEREAS, He was the recipient of many awards throughout his |
12 |
| outstanding career at the Joliet Herald News, including the |
13 |
| 2001 Governor's Hometown Award for his first place Taylor Pirc |
14 |
| Police Video Camera Project, the 1981 Illinois Journalist of |
15 |
| the Year Award, and the Will County Sheriff's Department 2004 |
16 |
| Lifetime Achievement Award; the Joliet Area Historical Museum |
17 |
| War Heroes Gallery was named in his honor; he received an |
18 |
| Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery Memorial Squad Certificate |
19 |
| of Appreciation for support in establishing the honor guard, |
20 |
| and a resolution was passed by the House of Representatives on |
21 |
| November 19, 2004 honoring his long service to the Herald News |
22 |
| and the Joliet Community; and
|
23 |
| WHEREAS, The passing of John F. Whiteside has been deeply |
24 |
| felt by many, especially his loving wife of 39 years, Mary Jane |
25 |
| (nee Wharton) Whiteside; his daughter, Shelley Ann Whiteside; |
26 |
| his mother, Jane Hill; his brothers, Jerry (Katrina) Whiteside |
27 |
| and Allan (Mary Ann) Hill; his sister, Sue (Dr. David) Ray; his |
28 |
| stepsisters, Greta (Ed) Chitwood and Gloria (Homer) Baker; and |
29 |
| his numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins; he was preceded in |
30 |
| death by his father, Sherman Whiteside; his beloved |
31 |
| grandmother, Lula Whiteside; his Aunt Mary Whiteside; his Aunt |
