SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
New Act

    Creates the Confidential Information Disposal Act. Provides that each State agency must shred, destroy, or otherwise render unintelligible any paper, memo, document, report, personal computer, floppy disk, CD, or other device containing confidential information prior to disposing of those items. Defines "State agency" and confidential information.

1     AN ACT concerning State government.
 
2     Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3 represented in the General Assembly:
 
4     Section 1. Short title. This Act may be cited as the
5 Confidential Information Disposal Act.
 
6     Section 5. Definitions. As used in this Act:
7     "State agency" means any officer, board, commission or
8 agency created by the Constitution, whether in the executive,
9 legislative, or judicial branch; any officer, department,
10 board, commission, agency, institution, authority, university,
11 body politic or corporate of the State; any administrative unit
12 or corporate outgrowth of the State government which is created
13 by or pursuant to statute, other than units of local government
14 and their officers, school districts and boards of election
15 commissioners; or any administrative unit or corporate
16 outgrowth of the above or as may be created by executive order
17 of the Governor.
18     "Confidential information" means information that is
19 privileged or otherwise protected from disclosure by law.
 
20     Section 10. Disposal of confidential information. Each
21 State agency must shred, destroy, or otherwise render
22 unintelligible any paper, memo, document, report, personal
23 computer, floppy disk, CD, or other device containing
24 confidential information prior to disposing of those items.
