To the Honorable Members of the

Illinois Senate   

94th General Assembly

Pursuant to Article IV, Section 9(b) of the Illinois Constitution of 1970, I hereby veto

Senate Bill 1294, entitled “AN ACT concerning revenue.”   Senate Bill 1294 allows certain building owners to petition for the creation of a Special Service Area in order to levy additional taxes. While Senate Bill 1294 requires all the building owners to agree before the Special Service Area is created, the increased taxes will most likely result in increased costs for the tenants of these buildings.  Therefore, I will not consent to this change of the Property Tax Code.

            For this reason, I hereby veto and return Senate Bill 1294.
