| Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois, |
3 |
| represented in the General Assembly:
|

| Section 5. The Probate Act of 1975 is amended by changing |
5 |
| Section 13-3 as follows:
|

| Sec. 13-3. Compensation of public administrator.
|

| (a) In counties having a population in excess of 1,000,000
|
9 |
| the
the public administrator shall pay all the fees collected |
10 |
| by the office into
the county treasury. Each year, the county |
11 |
| board shall appropriate an amount
to be paid to the public |
12 |
| administrator as compensation for the public
administrator's |
13 |
| performance of his or her duties and such compensation shall be
|
14 |
| paid at a minimum level of $20,000 annually. That amount shall |
15 |
| be paid
from the fees collected by the office of the public |
16 |
| administrator. The
county board in such counties shall fix the |
17 |
| amount for the public
administrator's compensation and |
18 |
| necessary clerk hire,
assistants,
and office expense in the |
19 |
| annual county budget and appropriation ordinances,
which shall |
20 |
| be paid from the
county treasury. In such counties all fees of |
21 |
| the office of public
administrator are subject to audit the |
22 |
| same as are fees of other county
officers. |

| (b) In counties having a population of 1,000,000 or
less |
24 |
| the public administrator may receive all the fees
of his office |
25 |
| and shall bear the expenses connected with
the operation of |
26 |
| such office.
