SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
720 ILCS 570/218 new

    Amends the Illinois Controlled Substances Act. Provides that it is a Class A misdemeanor for any manufacturer, wholesaler, retailer, or other person to sell, transfer, or otherwise furnish, to a person under 18 years of age, a dietary supplement containing an ephedrine group alkaloid or a dietery supplement containing androstanediol, androstanedione, androstenedione, norandrostenediol, dehydroepiandrosterone, or dehydroepiandrosterone. Provides that a seller shall request valid identification from any individual who attempts to purchase such a dietary supplement if that individual reasonably appears to the seller to be under 18 years of age. Effective immediately.

1     AN ACT concerning criminal law.
 
2     Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3 represented in the General Assembly:
 
4     Section 5. The Illinois Controlled Substances Act is
5 amended by adding Section 218 as follows:
 
6     (720 ILCS 570/218 new)
7     Sec. 218. Dietary supplements containing ephedrine or
8 anabolic steroid precursors.
9     (a) It is a Class A misdemeanor for any manufacturer,
10 wholesaler, retailer, or other person to sell, transfer, or
11 otherwise furnish any of the following to a person under 18
12 years of age:
13         (1) a dietary supplement containing an ephedrine group
14     alkaloid; or
15         (2) a dietary supplement containing any of the
16     following:
17             (A) Androstanediol;
18             (B) Androstanedione;
19             (C) Androstenedione;
20             (D) Norandrostenediol;
21             (E) Norandrostenedione; or
22             (F) Dehydroepiandrosterone.
23     (b) A seller shall request valid identification from any
24 individual who attempts to purchase a dietary supplement set
25 forth in subsection (a) if that individual reasonably appears
26 to the seller to be under 18 years of age.
 
27     Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon
28 becoming law.
