| AN ACT concerning employment.
|

| Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
|
3 |
| represented in the General Assembly:
|

| Section 5. The School Visitation Rights Act is amended by |
5 |
| changing Section
15
as follows:
|

| (820 ILCS 147/15)
|

| Sec. 15. School conference and activity leave.
|
8 |
| (a) An employer must grant an employee leave of up to a |
9 |
| total of 24
8 hours
during any school year, and no more than 4 |
10 |
| hours of which may be taken on
any given day, to attend school |
11 |
| conferences or classroom activities related
to the employee's |
12 |
| child if the conference or classroom activities cannot be
|
13 |
| scheduled during nonwork hours; however, no leave may be taken |
14 |
| by an
employee of an employer that is subject to this Act |
15 |
| unless the employee has
exhausted all accrued vacation leave,
|
16 |
| personal leave, compensatory
leave , and
any other leave that |
17 |
| may be granted to the employee except sick leave ,
vacation |
18 |
| leave, and
disability leave. Before arranging attendance at the |
19 |
| conference or activity,
the employee shall provide the employer |
20 |
| with a written request for leave at
least 7 days in advance of |
21 |
| the time the employee is required to utilize the
visitation |
22 |
| right. In emergency situations, no more than 24 hours notice
|
23 |
| shall be required. The employee must consult with the employer |
24 |
| to schedule
the leave so as not to disrupt unduly the |
25 |
| operations of the employer.

| (b) Nothing in this Act requires that the leave be paid.
|
27 |
| (c) For regularly scheduled, nonemergency visitations, |
28 |
| schools shall
make time available for visitation during both |
29 |
| regular school hours and
evening hours.
