| WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
3 |
| Representatives wish to express their sincere condolences to |
4 |
| the family and friends of Thomas Allen Hawkins of Waukegan, |
5 |
| Illinois, who passed away on August 1, 2006; and
|
6 |
| WHEREAS, Thomas Allen Hawkins was born on November 9, 1931 |
7 |
| in Florence, Alabama; his parents were Major and Lena Hawkins; |
8 |
| and
|
9 |
| WHEREAS, Thomas Allen Hawkins confessed Christ at an early |
10 |
| age, joining Community Methodist Church in Florence; after |
11 |
| moving to Waukegan he joined Shiloh Baptist Church, where he |
12 |
| was a faithful member; and
|
13 |
| WHEREAS, Thomas Allen Hawkins was a graduate of Burrell |
14 |
| Slater High School, where he was captain of the football team |
15 |
| and excelled in basketball, track, and tennis; and
|
16 |
| WHEREAS, Thomas Allen Hawkins was a proud United States |
17 |
| Marine, serving in the Korean War; after his time in the |
18 |
| military, he moved to Waukegan and worked as a welder at |
19 |
| American Motors/Daimler Chrysler for 40 years; he was known for |
20 |
| being a hard worker and a man who loved education and |
21 |
| discipline; and
|
22 |
| WHEREAS, Thomas Allen Hawkins was preceded in death by his |
23 |
| parents, Major and Lena Hawkins; his sister, Lena Foxie; and |
24 |
| his stepson, Ralph Sims; and |
25 |
| WHEREAS, Thomas Allen Hawkins is survived by his special |
26 |
| and loving friend, Rosie Phillips; his son, Todd Sims; his |
27 |
| sister, Bettye Jean Hawkins; his grandchildren, Patrice, |
28 |
| Michelle, Anthony, Juwan, Montee, and Jeremiah Sims; his |
29 |
| stepchildren, Marilyn "Sput" (Charles) Wallace, Jill (James) |
