| WHEREAS, Loren Tate was born on November 3, 1931, in |

| Owensboro, Kentucky and recently celebrated his 75th birthday; |
4 |
| and
|

| WHEREAS, Loren Tate grew up in Monticello, Illinois; he is |
6 |
| a 1949 graduate of Monticello High School and a 1953 graduate |
7 |
| of the University of Illinois; and
|
8 |
| WHEREAS, He was Sports Editor of the Hammond Times in |
9 |
| Hammond, Indiana from 1955 to 1966 and then was hired at the |
10 |
| News-Gazette in Champaign, Illinois; and
|
11 |
| WHEREAS, He was Sports Director at WICD-TV from 1968 to |
12 |
| 1979, reporting sports on the 6 p.m. and 10 p.m. news each |
13 |
| evening, while also writing his column for the News-Gazette; |
14 |
| and
|
15 |
| WHEREAS, Loren Tate is known for co-hosting the "Saturday |
16 |
| Sportsline" show on WDWS, which he started in 1979 with Larry |
17 |
| Stewart; WDWS still broadcasts Loren with co-host, Jim Turpin, |
18 |
| every Saturday; and
|
19 |
| WHEREAS, He was named Executive Sports Editor of the |
20 |
| News-Gazette in 1987; in 1988 he won a first place award for |
21 |
| best news story from the Associated Press Sports Editors; and |
22 |
| WHEREAS, He is the author of the book, "A Century of Orange |
23 |
| and Blue: Celebrating 100 Years of Fighting Illini Basketball"; |
24 |
| he has been inducted into the IHSA Basketball Hall of Fame, the |
25 |
| Hammond Sports Hall of Fame, and the Monticello High School |
26 |
| Hall of Fame and has received the University of Illinois |
27 |
| honorary Varsity I award; and in 2003 received the News Gazette |
28 |
| Publisher's Award; and |
