| HOUSE RESOLUTION
|
2 |
| WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
3 |
| Representatives are pleased to honor milestones in Illinois |
4 |
| history; and
|
5 |
| WHEREAS, It has come to our attention that Harvard, |
6 |
| Illinois and the people of that community, will be celebrating |
7 |
| the sesquicentennial anniversary of their city; and
|
8 |
| WHEREAS, The land that would become the community of |
9 |
| Harvard was originally purchased from the government by Abraham |
10 |
| Carmack and Jacob A. Davis, who then sold the property to |
11 |
| Gilbert Brainard; after the death of Mr. Brainard the land was |
12 |
| sold to a group of railroad men including the man who would |
13 |
| name the town: E.G. Ayer; and
|
14 |
| WHEREAS, It was Mr. Ayers decision to name the town after |
15 |
| Harvard, Massachusetts; after his partners left the area Mr. |
16 |
| Ayers stayed on to watch the development of the community; and
|
17 |
| WHEREAS, On November 25, 1856, Amos Page appeared before |
18 |
| McHenry County Judge J.M. Stroede and witnessed the signing of |
19 |
| the Plat of the Village of Harvard as surveyed by George Tyler, |
20 |
| Deputy Surveyor; and
|
21 |
| WHEREAS, The City of Harvard is planning a Re-Signing of |
22 |
| the Plat of the Original Town of Harvard on November 25, 2006; |
23 |
| former mayors and the current city council will be on hand for |
24 |
| this historic moment; therefore, be it
|

| RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |
26 |
| NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that |
27 |
| we congratulate the people of Harvard, Illinois, on this |
28 |
| milestone in their community history; and be it further
