| HOUSE RESOLUTION
|
| 2 |
| WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives of the |
| 3 |
| State of Illinois are honored to recognize Herman Calvert of |
| 4 |
| Olney when he turns 80 on October 14, 2006; and
|
| 5 |
| WHEREAS, He was born in 1926 and spent the 1930's growing |
| 6 |
| up in Jasper County along the Embarras River; he was drafted |
| 7 |
| into the United States Army in 1950, earning two bronze stars |
| 8 |
| while serving in both North and South Korea; in 1953 he |
| 9 |
| returned to Jasper County where he began a life of farming and |
| 10 |
| raising cattle; and
|
| 11 |
| WHEREAS, He is known nationwide for his collection of Model |
| 12 |
| T Ford cars and his passion of collecting antiques; he would |
| 13 |
| enter his restored 1916 Model T Ford in the annual Newport, |
| 14 |
| Indiana, Hill Climb winning it in both 1977 and 1978; and
|
| 15 |
| WHEREAS, In July 2003, he stood on the 38th parallel that |
| 16 |
| separates North and South Korea for the 50th anniversary of the |
| 17 |
| cease-fire that ended the war; and
|
| 18 |
| WHEREAS, Friends will gather to celebrate the historic life |
| 19 |
| of this true war hero on October 14, 2006; therefore, be it
|
| 20 |
| RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |
| 21 |
| NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that |
| 22 |
| we congratulate Herman Calvert on the occasion of his 80th |
| 23 |
| birthday, and we extend our sincere best wishes for the future; |
| 24 |
| and be it further

| RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
| 26 |
| presented to him as an expression of our esteem.
