| HOUSE RESOLUTION

| WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives are |
3 |
| pleased to recognize two individuals who have treated several |
4 |
| generations of Chicago's children, Dr. Herbert and Dr. Ruth |
5 |
| Lerner, on the occasion of their retirement; and
|
6 |
| WHEREAS, Herbert I. Lerner was born in Chicago on November |
7 |
| 3, 1923; a product of Chicago Public Schools, he graduated from
|
8 |
| Marshall High School and went on to Herzl Junior College, |
9 |
| Roosevelt, and the University of
Illinois; his education was |
10 |
| interrupted when he served in the U.S. Army
Air Force for three |
11 |
| years as a radio operator mechanic on a C 46 troop carrier; and
|
12 |
| WHEREAS, In the meantime, Ruth G. Lerner was born on |
13 |
| December 8, 1923, in Vyprty, Czechoslovakia; she graduated from |
14 |
| high school in Barenstein, Germany, and went on to Gymnasium in |
15 |
| Karlsbad, Czechoslovakia, and medical school in Prague, |
16 |
| Czechoslovakia; and
|
17 |
| WHEREAS, She migrated to the U.S. in 1946 with her parents |
18 |
| and twin sister, Ingeborg; she and Dr. Herbert I. Lerner were |
19 |
| married during their last year of medical school in 1950; they |
20 |
| graduated from the University of Illinois College of Medicine |
21 |
| in 1951; both are members of the American Academy of Pediatrics |
22 |
| and the AOA Medical Honorary Society; and
|
23 |
| WHEREAS, Together, they opened a private practice in |
24 |
| September of 1954 in Hyde Park in Chicago; for over 50 years, |
25 |
| they have met, with able assistance from Camille Latimer, the
|
26 |
| medical needs of countless area children with consummate skill |
27 |
| and caring
commitment, taking more than a single generation |
28 |
| from the first DPT shot
through the flu, from strep throat to |
29 |
| more serious health challenges; and |
30 |
| WHEREAS, The Drs. Lerner worked hard to eliminate racial |
