| HOUSE RESOLUTION
|

| WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives of the |
3 |
| State of Illinois are pleased to recognize an individual who, |
4 |
| for 24 years, has placed himself in harms way for the safety |
5 |
| and protection of the public; and
|
6 |
| WHEREAS, Shelby County Sheriff Randall Sims was born in |
7 |
| Pana on March 2, 1954, and attended school in Pana, graduating |
8 |
| in 1972; he married Annette Beyers on September 6, 1975, at |
9 |
| Oconee Sacred Heart Church; they became the parents of three |
10 |
| sons, Brian Sims, Gary Sims (wife Gara), and Mark Sims (wife |
11 |
| Dawn); they are the proud grandparents of Austin and Raegan; |
12 |
| and
|
13 |
| WHEREAS, Sheriff Sims began his law enforcement service to |
14 |
| Shelby County as an Auxiliary Deputy Sheriff in 1982, making |
15 |
| him one of six family members serving Central Illinois in law |
16 |
| enforcement; he was appointed Deputy Sheriff of Shelby County |
17 |
| in December of 1984 and elected Sheriff of Shelby County in |
18 |
| 1990; he was re-elected in 1994, 1998, and 2002, making him the |
19 |
| longest serving sheriff in the history of Shelby County; and
|
20 |
| WHEREAS, In his role as sheriff, he initiated the D.A.R.E. |
21 |
| program in schools across Shelby County, instituted the Shelby |
22 |
| County TRIAD program and STARS Academy, and instituted the |
23 |
| Shelby County Crimestoppers program; he has served as Director |
24 |
| of the Illinois State Crimestoppers Board since 1995; he also |
25 |
| served as Director of the East Central Illinois Drug Task Force |
26 |
| from 1992 to 2005, Past President of the Oconee Lions Club, and |
27 |
| Past Commander of the Roy Ireland Post 317 of the American |
28 |
| Legion in Oconee; therefore, be it
