| HOUSE RESOLUTION

| WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives of the |
3 |
| State of Illinois are pleased to recognize Lillie Sanders on |
4 |
| the occasion of her retirement from the field of education; and
|
5 |
| WHEREAS, Ms. Sanders has been the Director of the Chicago |
6 |
| Public Schools' (CPS) NCLB Title I Parent Resource Service |
7 |
| Center (PRSC) since August of 2000; in this position, she has |
8 |
| been responsible for citywide parental involvement; she |
9 |
| planned the first town hall meeting for CPS in October of 2000, |
10 |
| and subsequent meetings, forums, and symposiums are now |
11 |
| standard programming by the CPS Parent Resource Service Center; |
12 |
| these forums provide services for parents such as employment, |
13 |
| housing information, literacy training, health and nutrition |
14 |
| information, and a multitude of other services; she and the |
15 |
| center's staff preside over annual parent graduations of more |
16 |
| than 300 parents who receive diplomas for active participation |
17 |
| in various schools during a semester; and
|
18 |
| WHEREAS, Prior to serving as director of the PRSC, Ms. |
19 |
| Sanders taught the third, fifth, and sixth grades at Beethoven |
20 |
| Elementary School, where she was nominated and received Teacher |
21 |
| of the Year Awards from Congressman Danny K. Davis and the |
22 |
| Reverend Jesse Jackson in 1999; she worked as |
23 |
| teacher/coordinator for the CPS Young Parents Program from 1992 |
24 |
| to 1994; the program enjoyed a record number of GED completions |
25 |
| annually under her leadership; she also worked as a part-time |
26 |
| adjunct professor at Chicago State University; and
|
27 |
| WHEREAS, Among her other accomplishments were the roles she |
28 |
| played in staffing the Jeffery Shopping Center as Assistant |
29 |
| Director of Employment and Training at The Neighborhood |
30 |
| Institute/South Shore Bank and as Director of Job Placement at |
31 |
| MSTA Business College, where the job placement percentage |
32 |
| ranged from 80% to 90% monthly; and
